  • Patent number: 7018357
Abstract: An external mixer assembly is provided which externally mixes and delivers a first and a second component of a biological adhesive to tissues or organs for sealing wounds, stopping bleeding and the like. The first and second components are mixed immediately after exiting from separate outlet ports disposed in fluid communication with component reservoirs. In on embodiment, the external mixer assembly includes a housing having a housing head for enclosing therein a first reservoir containing the first component, and a second reservoir containing the second component. The housing further includes a discharge nozzle defining a longitudinal axis for enclosing therein a conduit assembly having a first and a second conduit in communication with the first and second reservoir, respectively. A deflector assembly is connected to the discharge nozzle. The deflector assembly includes a deflector plate to provide a space for initial mixing of the first and second components.

  • Patent number: 6733480
Abstract: A multilumen discharge assembly for delivering mixed biological adhesives is provided, which comprises a base portion including a flow path to provide mixed biological adhesives therethrough, and an elongate cylinder defining a plurality of axially extending flow channels connected to an outlet port, where the elongate cylinder is rotatably mounted relative to the base portion to permit sequential alignment of said flow path with a respective one of said plurality of flow channels upon rotation thereof. The discharge assembly further includes a declogging mechanism disposed adjacent the elongate cylinder and including at least one scraping member for scraping a portion of said outlet port to provide a substantially clear opening for delivering mixed biological adhesives.

  • Publication number: 20030055384
Abstract: Fibrin sealant applicator systems are provided for dispensing a first and a second protein solution to form a biological adhesive which overcome the disadvantages of the prior art. The first and second protein solutions are preferably fibrinogen and thrombin solutions which may intermix on an application site or within the applicator to form a fibrin sealant. The fibrin sealant applicator systems according to the present disclosure include two piston-type sub-assemblies coupled to two vials storing the fibrinogen and thrombin via a coupling unit. The piston-type sub-assemblies store sterilized water within reservoirs which are in fluid communication with the vials via the coupling unit. The water is forced into the vials to form the fibrinogen and thrombin solutions.

  • Patent number: 6471670
Abstract: Fibrin sealant applicator systems are provided for dispensing a first and a second protein solution to form a biological adhesive which overcome the disadvantages of the prior art. The fibril sealant applicator system according to the present disclosure includes two piston-type sub-assemblies coupled to two vials storing a fibrinogen and a thrombin via a coupling unit. The piston-type sub-assemblies store sterilized water within reservoirs which are in fluid communication with the vials via the coupling unit. The water is forced into the vials to form a fibrinogen and a thrombin solution. The solutions are then drawn into the reservoirs and a Y-coupler is attached to the distal end of the piston-type sub-assemblies. The Y-coupler provides fluid communication between the reservoirs and a nozzle body for dispensing the solutions when distal pressure is created within the reservoirs to force the solutions towards the nozzle body.
