  • Patent number: 4597419
Abstract: A support mechanism for a rotatable conductor wrapping bit for quick detachment from a conductor wrapping tool includes a housing for the bit and for a rotatable bit driver member. Radially inwardly projecting pins are disposed on the housng and project into a bore which receives a sleeve on the motor housing having opposed "j" slots. One of the pins is radially inwardly movable into locking engagement with the bit driver member whereby, upon detachment of the support mechanism from the motor casing, the bit driver member and the bit are locked in a predetermined indexed or rotationally oriented position relative to the housing. The bit driver member includes a spring disposed in a bore formed therein and engageable with a coupling part for permitting axial excursion of the bit to accommodate the axial space occupied by successive helical convolutions of conductor wire as a coiled connection is formed.

  • Patent number: 4467842
Abstract: A device for stripping insulation from magnet wire and wrapping the stripped wire around a terminal in a series of helical convolutions is described. The device includes the normal rotatable wrapping bit having a wire receiving groove disposed on the periphery of the bit, this groove being radially offset from a terminal receiving bore in the bit. The device includes a fixed sleeve surrounding the bit with a wire receiving slot extending outwardly therefrom. It has a hooked shaped insulation stripping edge positioned transversely of the wire path and being radially positioned inwardly from the groove.

  • Patent number: 4380111
Abstract: A combination bit for cutting and stripping insulation from a solid flexible conductor wire and wrapping a stripped end portion of the wire on a terminal in a series of helical convolutions includes a cooperable sleeve having a wall portion forming a guide surface for permitting insertion of the wire into a groove formed on the periphery of the bit. A cutting blade disposed in the groove includes opposed straight cutting edge portions one of which is proportioned such that it engages the insulation of the conductor wire initially in a position which places said edge parallel to a cooperative flat surface portion on said sleeve and tangent to the circumference of the wire insulation. The bit and sleeve are proportioned so as to provide for initial engagement of the insulation by the conductor wire within approximately five degrees of angular rotation of the bit from its starting point.

  • Patent number: 4195401
Abstract: An unwrapping bit for solderless wrapped connections of flexible conductor wire comprising a tubular member having a conical recess in one end face and a terminal receiving bore coaxial with the conical recess. Opposed longitudinal slots as well as transverse slots in the bit intersect the recess and form ledges for engaging the coiled end of a flexible conductor wire. The conical recess may have a reentrant shoulder portion adjacent the bit end face for retaining the conductor wire coils in the recess as they are unwound from the terminal.

  • Patent number: 4051875
Abstract: A wrapping bit for insulated conductor wire includes a transverse end face having a shelf projecting from the surface of the end face adjacent the longitudinal wire receiving groove. An insulation slitting knife edge is formed on the shelf and extends along the surface of the shelf in a direction transverse to the longitudinal axis of the wrapping bit. A conductor guide channel intersects the wire receiving groove for guiding the insulated conductor onto the shelf and over the knife edge for slitting the conductor insulation longitudinally and just prior to wrapping the wire onto a terminal.
