  • Patent number: 6250968
Abstract: An electrical connector system with an electrical connector having signal contacts exhibiting unwanted cross-talk; and a circuit substrate engaging the connector. The substrate has a plurality of layers and at least first, second and third traces, each corresponding to a respective signal contact. The first trace includes: a first portion on at least one of the layers and adjacent a portion of the second trace in order to produce a first compensating cross-talk; a second portion on at least another of the plurality of layers and adjacent a portion of the third trace in order to produce a second compensating cross-talk. The substrate could also comprise a board having a first layer, a second layer, a plurality of inner layers between said first and second layers, and a ground plane on at least a lower surface of said board.

  • Patent number: 6068520
Abstract: A stacked modular jack connector having low cross talk and low combined stack height is disclosed. Low stack height is achieved by disposing contact terminals for stacked pairs of receptacles in a single coplanar array of interleaved terminals. The arrays are located between the receptacles. One receptacle of each pair is laterally offset from the other. For Ethernet applications, cross talk is minimized by arranging first, second, third and sixth terminals of a ten terminal array into a contact group of the first receptacle and fifth, eighth, ninth and tenth terminals of the array into a contact group of the second receptacle. Circuit board space requirements are minimized by arranging the terminal tails of both groups of terminals in a single line.

  • Patent number: 5562479
Abstract: Disclosed is an electrical connector. A first section of the connector includes a portion for mating with another connector, A second section of the connector includes conductors in an essentially side-by-side alignment to produce crosstalk having a polarity opposite to that of the mating section.

  • Patent number: 5522731
Abstract: Proposed is a connector assembly for electrically coupling a shielded cable to a ground plane. The assembly includes a metal shroud with pins for press-fitting to the ground plane, and a plug with a shield connection clamped or taped to the cable shield. Ground connections are provided by two paths: one from the drain wire of the cable through a signal contact in the plug and the other through the shield connection and shroud. Spacers in the shroud provide a keying function while permitting end-to-end stacking of plugs. Latching features on the plug and shroud hold the plugs in position and prevent insertion of the plug in the wrong orientation. Heat stakes in the plug can be used for the latching feature.

  • Patent number: 4738625
Abstract: Disclosed is a connector module for making electrical contact between two essentially parallel boards which include contact pads on the edges. The connector includes at least one conductive member adapted to extend from a pad on one board to a corresponding pad on the other board. The connector also includes an insulating support member formed to extend from the top of one board, around the edge of that board, and to the top of the other board. This support member fixes the distance between the boards, permits the conductive members to make electrical contact for test purposes prior to clamping, and provides an appropriate clamping force for the connection to the first board.

  • Patent number: 4350404
Abstract: An electrical connector (10) for terminating pairs of conductors (27, 28) on individual single electrical, insulation piercing contacts (14). The connector (10) is formed as two housing halves (11, 12) fitted to a central spacer member (13) to which both are locked. The contacts (14) are mounted in the housing halves (11, 12) and each presents at one end a conventional terminal pin receptacle comprising a pair of opposing blades (15, 16). Toward its other end each contact (14) is formed to present a pair of inverted "U" shaped members (18, 19) which are slotted to accomplish the conductor insulation piercing function. The members (18, 19), although equally spaced on the contacts (14), are staggered in their positions on the contacts (14) with respect to both adjacent contacts within a housing half (11, 12) and adjacent contacts between the housing halves (11, 12).
