  • Patent number: 5539897
Abstract: A buffer memory having addressable locations into which data blocks received from one of two or more devices are written and from which those data blocks are read to one of the other devices, is managed by a buffer memory controller. Selected, not necessarily sequential, buffer addresses are assigned by the controller to store data blocks included in a series supplied from the first device, and these assigned buffer addresses are loaded into register locations of a list register. Buffer addresses are read from an ordered list of the loaded register locations and respective data blocks are written into such addresses. Register locations from the ordered list are accessed to retrieve buffer addresses therefrom, and the data blocks stored in the retrieved buffer addresses are read from the buffer memory to the second device.

  • Patent number: 4283731
Abstract: An ink jet printing apparatus for printing addresses on documents being transported along an independently operated conveyor. The printing apparatus includes a control console, a printing arm telescopically received within the console, and an ink jet printing head mounted on a carriage which is vertically movable within the printing arm. A tachometer wheel is mounted on the printing carriage for contacting a document being transported past the printing head and generating a tachometer signal in response thereto. A programmed microprocessor generates printing control signals in synchronism with the tachometer signal.

  • Patent number: 4249189
Abstract: An ink jet printer for depositing drops from a plurality of jet drop streams on a print receiving medium includes a print head means for generating a plurality of jet drop streams arranged in a row, with each stream directed at the print receiving medium. A means is provided for selectively charging drops in the jet drop streams. A catcher means extends along the row of jet drop streams for catching deflected drops. The catcher means is electrically conductive and is maintained at a predetermined electrical potential. A deflection electrode means, comprising a strip of electrically resistive material, extends along the row of jet drop sreams on the opposite side of the row from the catcher means.
