  • Patent number: 4855509
Abstract: Alkali and alkaline earth metals are efficiently removed from polyols by contacting the polyol with an alkaline earth mono- or dihydrogen phosphate in an amount sufficient to remove substantially all of the alkali and/or alkaline earth metal from the polyol.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: January 28, 1987
Date of Patent: August 8, 1989
    Assignee: Manville Corporation
Inventors: Shashi B. Dave, Clifford W. Cain, Jr.
  • Patent number: 4629508
Abstract: A process is described for the formation of shaped hydrated calcium silicate products. The process comprises reacting an aqueous slurry containing a source of calcium hydroxide, perlite as a source of silica, and a soluble calcium salt in the presence of high pressure saturated steam, then adding cooling water followed by subsequent venting of the reactor vessel to ambient pressure. Reinforcing fibers may then be added after which the desired shapes are molded and dried.

Date of Patent: December 16, 1986
    Assignee: Manville Corporation
Inventors: Clifford W. Cain, Jr., Phillip C. Martin, Steven R. Martinez
  • Patent number: 4233379
Abstract: Compositions and papers made therefrom useful as separator materials in starved electrolyte lead/acid batteries are described. The compositions comprise a mixture of 30% to 80% by weight of perlite and 20% to 70% by weight of glass fibers. The glass fibers have diameters in the range of from 0.3 to 1.0 micrometers while the perlite has particle sizes in the range of from about 3 to about 100 micrometers.
