  • Patent number: 5605746
Abstract: A fibrous structure comprising a composite fiber matrix loaded with immobilized functional particulate and including void spaces forming tortuous flow paths, is provided. The particulate is beneficially distributed in the interior of the fibrous structure in three dimensions and fused to a low melting component of the composite fibers without substantially reducing the available surface area of the particulate. A filtration structure of a composite staple having a nylon sheath and a polyester core, with activated carbon particles bonded to the fiber matrix, and including a microfiber web located within the structure, is specifically disclosed.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: June 7, 1995
Date of Patent: February 25, 1997
    Assignee: Hoechst Celanese Corporation
Inventors: H. Gunter Groeger, George A. Serad, Clinton D. Felton
  • Patent number: 5558809
Abstract: The use of additives to produce polymer electrets with improved charge stability. In particular, the invention relates to the use of specific charge control agents used for toners that are blended with various polymers at suitable concentrations to enhance the charge lifetime of the electrets. The charge control agents include a triphenylmethane compound, a polymeric ammonium compound, and arylsulfide compound and azochromium complex.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: October 10, 1995
Date of Patent: September 24, 1996
    Assignee: Hoechst Celanese Corporation
Inventors: Werner Groh, Hans-Tobias Macholdt, Baylor D. Gibson, James R. Walden, Clinton D. Felton

  • Patent number: 4944854
Abstract: Continuous processes for the preparation of electrets and the products produced thereby, including filter fabrics, are disclosed. The process employs a continuous film or continuous filaments in the form of a tightly packed warp having a warp density as determined by light transmission of not more than 40%. The continuous film or continuous filament in the form of a tightly packed warp are continuously fed one or more times through a corona charging station having electrodes disposed on both sides of the material being treated, the material being treated being simultaneously heated while being subjected to a corona discharge of from 6 KV to 20 KV direct current.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: September 30, 1985
Date of Patent: July 31, 1990
    Assignee: Celanese Corporation
Inventors: Clinton D. Felton, Baylor D. Gibson, Charles E. Jamison, William O. McWhorter, George A. Serad
