    Abstract: A system and method that remotely quantifies mass emission rates of emission material emitted from moving vehicles as they operate in real-time. Release locations of these emission materials may or may not coincide, and plumes generated from the releases may be spatially overlapping or distinct. The method can quantify both distance-based mass emission rates (grams/mile) and time-based emission rates (gram/hour). Exemplary approaches can be used to measure vehicle emissions as they move whether the emissions are released from the tailpipe or elsewhere on the vehicle and without touching the vehicle. The approaches might also be used in other situations where material is emitted from a body in a flow field, such as an aircraft or marine vessel moving through air, a stationary source in a wind field, or brake or tire wear particulate material of a heavy-duty truck driving on the road.

    Abstract: Techniques for reclaiming storage space are disclosed herein. According to one embodiment, a storage space reclamation method includes a storage host creating at least one temporary logical container of data in a storage volume managed by a file system of a host so that a predetermined portion of storage capacity of the storage volume is occupied. Access to the storage volume is provided by a network storage controller to the storage host. The storage host translates a host address range for the file system of each temporary logical container of data into a storage controller address range for the network storage controller. The storage host requests the network storage controller to deallocate blocks the locations of which are indicated by the storage controller address range, and then deletes the at least one temporary logical container of data.

The customer identifier is associated with a customer in a retail location. The purchase data computer determines a targeted research invitation associated with the customer identifier, the targeted research invitation including contact information to be used by the customer to participate in a marketing research program. Next, the purchase data controller causes a printer to print the targeted research invitation. According to another aspect of the invention, a current purchase of the customer sets off a trigger in the purchase data computer, causing the purchase data computer to print a targeted research invitation at the printer, based on the current purchase. According to another aspect of the invention, a host computer uses prior purchase history of consumers to determine targeted research invitations to be delivered to the consumers.
