  • Publication number: 20170313613
Abstract: Forehearth constructions are described in which means are provided to heat the sides of the stream of molten glass (27) passing along the forehearth from a glass-making furnace to one or more molten glass outlets by way of flames emerging from a series of substantially horizontal slots. The slots are located in the side walls of the channel above the level of the molten glass surface when the forehearth is operating, and the ribbon of flame provides improved heat transfer to the molten glass stream. Burner blocks are disclosed for use in constructing a forehearth of this type, each consisting of a block of refractory material having an internal cavity (3) of generally wedge-shaped construction and having an elongated outlet in. the form of a slot (4) in the face of the block. A combustible gaseous mixture, or the components to form a combustible gaseous mixture, are fed into the cavity remote from the slot.

  • Patent number: 6565135
Abstract: A pivoting handle latch for attachment to a first member, such as a panel, to provide controlled actuation for facilitating attachment of the first member to a second member, such as a cabinet, the latch including a handle with a gripping portion, a based portion, a pawl member and and a first pin connecting the pawl member to the handle and extending through a slot provided in the base member to regulate the movement of the pawl when the handle is lifted from a closed horizontal position to a upright vertical position.

  • Patent number: 6464457
Abstract: A gas turbine engine arcuate segment has an arcuate band segment, at least one tab and an arcuate rail segment spaced axially apart from the tab and located along an axial end of the band segment. The tab and the arcuate rail segment extend radially away from the band segment and a space is located between the tab and the rail segment. A tab aperture extends entirely through the tab. The rail segment has a rail aperture entirely therethrough. A leaf seal and a spring are disposed within the space to bias the leaf seal against the aft rail. In an exemplary embodiment, a spring aperture extends entirely through the spring, a seal aperture extends entirely through the leaf seal, and a headless pin is disposed in the apertures such that the leaf seal and the spring are radially restrained by the pin.

  • Patent number: 5232340
Abstract: A gas turbine engine stator assembly includes an annular casing, a stator nozzle segment, and a shroud joined therewith. The nozzle segment includes an outer band having a forward hook joined to a complementary forward hook extending from the casing. The outer band also includes a plurality of circumferentially spaced apart stator lugs defining therebetween stator slots. The stator lugs are disposed between an aft flange and complementary lugs extending from the casing. Slots defined respectively between the stator and casing lugs are axially aligned for receiving axially extending lugs on the shroud for restraining rotation of the stator segment about the centerline axis of the casing.

  • Patent number: 4799647
Abstract: The present invention relates to a valve assembly for controlling fluid flow in a fluid flow regulator. The valve assembly comprises a deformable plug 1 e.g. of rubber, having a cylindrical body formed with a circumferential groove 5 and a pair of backing plates 2 and 3 located at either end of the plug 1. The plates 2 and 3 are bonded to the plug 1 and, in use, plate 2 is moved to stress the plug 1 and cause it to expand radially to restrict an annular clearance between the plug 1 and a valve seat (not shown) in which the plug 1 is located. This enables fluid flow through the clearance to be controlled. A flanged steel ring 4 is mounted on the backing plate 2 and a circular neck portion 10 of the plug 1 is located between the ring 4 and the plate 2, the portion being bonded to the plate 2. The ring 4, and especially the groove 5, serve to prevent or inhibit erosion of the plug surface in use.
