  • Patent number: 11661269
Abstract: A support structure for supporting vehicles one above the other during transport or storage, the structure comprising a base frame having four corner posts extending generally vertically when in use to support a separate upper frame on which an upper vehicle can be supported in an elevated transport position, and one or more separate lower frames arranged to be positioned within the base frame when in use on which a lower vehicle can be supported. The upper frame is guided up the corner posts when the upper vehicle is raised to the elevated transport position. The base frame, upper and lower frames are transportable in a collapsed state when not in use by folding the corner posts down and collapsing the base frame, upper frame and lower frame so that they occupy less space with the upper, and lower and base frames in a nested configuration.

  • Publication number: 20220228652
Abstract: Embodiments of this disclosure are directed to devices that allow for adjusting of device parameters in a manner that does not involve power dissipation in an essential way. Thus, power demands when such devices are used in applications can be insignificant. This applies to both springs and inerters, which constitute basic lossless building blocks of mechanical device systems, and are analogues of inductors and capacitors in electrical circuits. Embodiments of this disclosure are also directed to a lossless adjustable 2-port transformer, and realization of mechanical translational and rotary transformers are set forth in the following. Embodiments of this disclosure allow for reduction of power demands in adjusting device parameters.

  • Publication number: 20210308682
Abstract: We describe instruments, and cartridges therefor, for processing droplets of water in oil-in-water emulsions, the droplets containing biological entities such as cells. In one embodiment a method of such processing comprises: providing a plurality of the entities in a fluid: preparing a droplet from said fluid: determining whether said droplet contains one or more entities of said plurality of entities, or whether said droplet does not contain a said entity; sorting said droplet dependent on an outcome of said determination; and dispensing said sorted droplet into a reservoir, wherein said dispensing comprises: identifying said sorted droplet for dispensing; extracting said sorted droplet from a first fluidic flow path of said fluid by transferring said sorted droplet from said first fluidic flow path into a second fluidic flow path; and ejecting said sorted droplet from said second fluidic flow path into said reservoir by applying pressure to said second fluidic flow path.

  • Publication number: 20210245999
Abstract: A method of testing a shipping container (10) for use as an upper container in a vertical tandem lift configuration the method comprising supporting the container other than by the lower corner fittings (15), connecting couplers (18) in the lower corner fittings of the container to be tested and then applying a proof load on the couplers to confirm that the container and/or the couplers can sustain the forces at least through the lower corner fittings which will be experienced during use in a vertical tandem lift. The invention also provides a rig (70, 143) for carrying out the proof test and/or for connecting or disconnecting couplers to or from the lower corner fittings of a shipping container. Various corner units for use in such a rig are also disclosed.
