    Abstract: The apparatus and method for measuring and monitoring the characteristic diameter of a flowing particulate material comprises: a chamber having a particle size measurement outlet of known dimensions through which some or all of the flowing material passes, a mechanism to determine the flow rate of the material through the particle size measurement outlet, a mechanism for determining the bulk density of the material and a mechanism to compute the characteristic diameter from the known or determined parameters.
