  • Patent number: 5496235
Abstract: A walking exerciser includes a frame structure having two board members on two sides and a handle member for a user to grip and two sets of swinging support members pivotally mounted on the board members of the frame structure. Each set of the swinging support members includes two swinging support members the upper ends of which are pivotally mounted on the board member and a step pedal pivotally mounted on the lower ends of the swinging support members. The swinging support members and said step pedal together form a substantially triangular pattern with a distance between the pivots on the upper ends of the swinging support members less than that between the pivots on the lower ends thereof so that the angle of the step pedal can be the most suitable foot angle for the user. Two resistance adjusting devices are disposed between said board members and the upper ends of the swinging support members.

  • Patent number: 5454770
Abstract: A stepper is incorporated with a sensor system and includes a frame assembly with a base frame and a center beam mounted securely on the base frame, and two foot-pedal arms located on two sides of the center beam. Each of the foot-pedal arms has an end mounted pivotally on the frame assembly. The sensor system is adapted to monitor exercise performance and generate exercise information and includes a photo-detecting unit mounted operatively on the frame assembly, a slotted wheel mounted axially on the end of a corresponding one of the foot-pedal arms, and an instrument control unit. The photo-detecting unit includes two photo emitters and two photo receivers. Each of the photo receivers is opposite to and aligned with a corresponding one of the photo emitters. The slotted wheel has a flange member extending toward the center beam and between the photo emitters and the photo receivers. The flange member has a plurality of angularly spaced-apart openings.

  • Patent number: 5441467
Abstract: A handle assembly includes two aligned handle units which are disposed on two sides of the base frame of an exerciser. Each of said handle units includes a lower handle section mounted pivotally on the base frame, and an upper handle section having a lower end connected pivotally to the upper end of said lower handle section by a horizontal pivot pin. Accordingly, when the handle units are operated by the hands of a user, the lower handle sections can rotate relative to the base frame. At the same time, the upper handle sections can rotate relative to the lower handle units. Accordingly, the arms of the user can be exercised in such a manner that the hands can be moved to be in front or back of the elbows, or to be above or below the same in order to operate the handle units during exercise.

  • Patent number: 5439432
Abstract: An exercise machine comprises a pair of stepping members pivotally secured to the base frame, a main strut attached to the base frame extending upwardly therefrom and handlebars secured atop the main strut. A different resistance cylinder is secured to each stepping member for providing resistance when a downward force is placed on the stepping members by the user. The stepping members each have a compression mat secured thereto for providing a cushioned surface.

  • Patent number: 5439433
Abstract: A step climber exercise machine comprises a base frame having a support bar telescopically mounted therein, a pair of stepping members pivotally secured to the base frame, a main strut attached to the base frame extending upwardly therefrom and handle bars secured atop the main strut. A different resistance is secured to each stepping member for providing resistance when a downward force is placed on the stepping members by the user. The support bar can extend outwardly from the base frame to prevent tipping of the exercise machine when in use.

  • Patent number: 5433683
Abstract: The belt which normally interconnects the two foot supports of a cross-country ski exercising machine passes around at least one pulley so as to rotate the pulley in an oscillating manner as the foot supports move back and forth. A slotted wheel rotates with the pulley and a photo-detecting unit is mounted on the frame for the exercise machine so as to cooperate with the slotted wheel. The photo-detecting unit includes two photo emitters and two photo receivers. Light from the photo emitters is intermittently received by the photo receivers as the openings in the slotted wheel move between the photo emitters and the photo receivers. This sensor system is capable of determining the extent of movement of the foot supports which, when connected to an information control unit, can provide precise exercise information such as the amount of distance actually covered and the number of calories consumed.

  • Patent number: 5403254
Abstract: A foldable step climber exercise machine comprises a base frame having a balancing support telescopically mounted therein, a pair of stepping members pivotally secured to the base frame, a main strut attached to the base frame extending upwardly therefrom and handlebar secured atop the main strut. A different resistance structure is secured to each stepping member for providing resistance when a downward force is placed on the stepping members by the user. Pivots are provided between the main strut and the base frame to allow the step climber to be collapsed from an operating position to a storage position.
