  • Patent number: 5230510
Abstract: A golf club with an improved head and hosel design which reduces off-center drag, and corresponding twist, experienced by the head as it traverses through a viscous medium such as sand, high grass, mud, or water. The base of the hosel is formed above its traditional position adjacent the sole of the club and is specially shaped so that the horizontal position of the center of drag of the head remains aligned with the center of percussion of the head even when the club is used to hit a golf ball resting in a viscous medium. This eliminates the twisting moment which usually results from the off-center drag caused by the hosel, and assists a golfer in maintaining the proper ball contact angle during the swing so that the golf ball is less likely to diverge from its intended path.

  • Patent number: 5176383
Abstract: A golf "wood" club whose head includes a weight positioned behind the center of percussion of the club head face to promote energy transfer to a golf ball. The head can be manufactured from traditional materials such as wood, but in its preferred embodiments, it is constructed from composite or metal material with an embedded faceplate reinforced by a support member that extends rearwardly and spaces the weight from the faceplate to increase the moment of inertia of the club about a vertical axis and reduce flexure of the faceplate.

  • Patent number: 4508350
Abstract: A golf club putter is constructed with a head having a high polar moment of inertia about its preferred ball striking point by forming the putter head body out of light weight material, such as aluminum, with relatively large heel and toe cavities. A predetermined mass of heavy material such as molten lead is poured into the cavities along with a small amount of uncured epoxy. At the temperature of molten lead, epoxy loses much of its viscosity and flows on the surface of the lead to fill voids caused by contraction of the lead. A thin cover preferably of a decorative material like polished brass then is bonded to a flange formed about each cavity by the epoxy to close each cavity.

  • Patent number: 4468034
Abstract: An adjustment and training aid for golf clubs which allows the adjustment of the loft and lie angles for the physical characteristics and stance of a particular golfer. The device includes a base with a raised abutment surface on a horizontal platform against which the leading edge of the head of the club to be adjusted is positioned. With the golfer in his normal stance holding the club stationary against the abutment surface, a pointer of adjustable length is attached to the face of the club. The pointer is extended to an upstanding wall of the base having indicia thereon of loft and lie angles for the various clubs to indicate the actual loft angle and the direction a ball being hit would travel. Any misalignment of the expected ball direction from a centerline indicates an error in the lie angle of the club as it is being held.

  • Patent number: 4444392
Abstract: An improved driver club head for the game of golf including an internal cavity which communicates with a shaped slot in the rear of the head to provide a short-term dynamic alleviation of the base aerodynamic drag of the head when it is being swung. The head can be manufactured from traditional materials such as wood, but in its preferred embodiments, it is constructed from metal or composite materials.

  • Patent number: 4128244
Abstract: An improvement to golf club heads which includes a slot or notch which extends through a portion of the head generally behind the preferred ball striking position of the club face wherein the slot enables proper eye, golf club head alignment. Additional indicia means can be included along the sides of the slot or on the back surface behind it to indicate further adjustments for golfers of different sizes or for intentional hooking or slicing of the ball. The slot angle may be adjustable.
