  • Patent number: 4504857
Abstract: A gyro compass positioning apparatus is disclosed for use in lowering and accurately orienting a first object such as an underwater pipeline junction manifold to the floor of a body of water. The gyro compass positioning apparatus comprises a north seeking gyro compass in combination with a closed circuit television camera, all enclosed in a pressure housing. The closed circuit television camera is mounted above the north seeking gyro compass such that it is continuously viewing the orientation of the needle of the compass and displaying this orientation on a television monitor which is located on the surface ship. The first object or underwater pipeline junction manifold is attached to the bottom of the pressure housing by a mounting bracket and in predetermined orientation thereto.

  • Patent number: 4296415
Abstract: A method and apparatus for processing monopulse radar return signals to synthesize the imaginary component (.beta..sub.I) of the complex angle of arrival. Scintillation errors in the real component (.beta..sub.R) of the complex angle of arrival can then be reduced on a pulse-by-pulse basis by the criterion that .vertline..beta..sub.I .vertline. be small in magnitude and gating the .beta..sub.R signal when this criterion is not met.

  • Patent number: 4014704
Abstract: An insulating composition useful for riser sleeves, hot tops, ladle liners, and the like articles for use in casting of molten ferrous metal is described. The composition comprises 30% to 50% refractory fiber, 1% to 35% granular silicon carbide, inorganic binder, organic binder, and refractory filler. Molten steel at temperatures on the order of 3,000.degree. F can be readily handled by the articles of this composition. They also afford superior heat insulating properties and in the form of riser sleeves allow molten metal in a riser to remain molten for a longer period before solidification.
