  • Patent number: 4267856
Abstract: A fluid oscillator is shown for producing pulsations in a flow of fluid. The oscillator has a housing which includes a fluid inlet channel for connection to a supply of fluid under pressure, a fluid outlet channel, and a valve chamber located between and communicating with said channels. A valve element is movably located in the valve chamber to alternatively block and unblock the outlet channel to produce the pulsating flow. The valve element moves to a blocking position by a reduction in fluid pressure at the valve element adjacent to the outlet channel. This reduction in pressure is partly caused by the fluid flowing past the valve element from the inlet channel to the outlet channel. The outlet channel is dimensioned so that the inertia of the fluid therein produces a further reduction in fluid pressure at the valve element adjacent to the outlet channel, which further reduction in pressure also holds the valve element firmly in the blocking position.

  • Patent number: 4109834
Abstract: A device for discharging a constant volume of fluid which is relatively simple in construction and requires little space. The device comprises a cylindrical chamber with a tangential inlet to induce vortical fluid motion. Within the chamber is a ball having a specific gravity different from that of fluid and adapted to block an outlet which is disposed at the vertex of a cone-like surface disposed at one end of the chamber. When displaced from the outlet by a suitable mechanism, a combination of fluid and gravitational forces cause the ball to follow a spiral path and return to block the outlet, having discharged a certain amount of fluid. Two embodiments are described utilizing a ball having a specific gravity greater than, and less than, that of the fluid.

  • Patent number: 4015779
Abstract: A fluid oscillator for producing pulsations in a flow of fluid, having a housing with a fluid inlet channel for connection to a supply of fluid under pressure, a fluid outlet channel, and a diaphragm valve which alternatively opens and closes causing intermittent flow of fluid from the fluid inlet channel to the fluid outlet channel. The valve opens due to the fluid supply pressure in the fluid inlet channel and the valve closes due to a reduction in pressure caused by the inertia of the fluid in the fluid outlet channel. A pressure accumulator is located adjacent to the inlet channel to absorb fluctuations in fluid pressure in the inlet channel. An elastic separator element is located in the housing to define a gaseous compartment in the pressure accumulator, so that pressure fluctuations in the fluid inlet channel are generally absorbed or attenuated by compression and expansion of the gas in the accumulator.
