  • Patent number: 6209312
Abstract: A nozzle assembly including a nozzle structure and liner is disclosed. The nozzle structure is made of at least one carbon-based material and includes a nose tip region, a restricted cross-sectional throat region, and an exit cone region that collectively provide an interior surface configured to define a converging-diverging pathway. The liner includes leg and body portions. The leg portion protrudes over an edge or into a groove of the nozzle structure to engage the liner to the nozzle structure. The body portion of the liner covers at least the throat region of the nozzle structure along the flow path to obstruct high temperature combustion products from causing recession of the nozzle structure. The erosion-resistant liner has at least one irregularity that extends, in a continuous manner, radially at least along the leg portion and, optionally, longitudinally along the body portion.

  • Patent number: 5600946
Abstract: A solid propellant dual pulse rocket motor has a pressure vessel containing two pulse grains separated by a barrier insulator. An igniter assembly disposed at a fore end of the pressure vessel selectively ignites a first pulse grain from a central channel within the grain. The igniter assembly also ignites a second pulse grain by ejecting hot combustion gases onto the fore end of the grain. Using such an ignition arrangement, a dual pulse rocket motor may be constructed using standard off-the-shelf ignition components.

  • Patent number: 5529149
Abstract: The drum-in-hat assembly (10) comprises a disc brake (12) mounted slidably relative to a backing plate (18) which includes an opening (19) through which extends a reverse scissors actuator (40) for the drum brake (30) of the assembly (10). The drum brake (30) includes a pair of arcuate drum brake shoes (32, 34) supported relative to the backing plate (18), with the shoes (32, 34) having a pair of opposed brake shoe ends (36, 38) engaged by the actuator (40). The actuator (40) comprises a pair of levers (42, 46) pivotably attached to one another with each lever (42, 46) having a second lever end (48, 58) engaging a respective end (38, 36) of an associated brake shoe, wherein the second lever end (48, 58) has either a slot (49) or an edge (59) located laterally away from the other and engaging the associated brake shoe end (38, 36). The actuator (40) is free to float relative to the backing plate (18), and the levers (42, 46) are located within a housing (70) attached to the backing plate (18).

  • Patent number: 5193653
Abstract: The mechanically actuated brake (10) comprises a laterally movable sleeve housing (22) which is attached by slots (24) and connections (26) with the support plate (28). A mechanical actuator and adjuster mechanism (40) has parts (42, 48) received within a longitudinal through opening (27) of the housing (22), a first part (42) of the mechanism (40) abutting one brake shoe end (20) while a second part (48) of the mechanism (40) abuts the other brake shoe end (18). A lever (50) for service brake operation is attached pivotably by a connection pin (30) with the housing (22) and extends through a transverse through opening (29) of the housing (22). The lever (50) is received within a slot (49) of the second part (48) of the mechanism (40), and includes an actuating arm (57) which extends through the housing (22) and is engagable with an actuating arm ( 66) of a pawl (60) that actuates the adjuster portion of the mechanism (40). The pin connection (30) also mounts rotatably the pawl (60) to the housing (22).

  • Patent number: 5142935
Abstract: The parking brake lever cable retainer (90) comprises a wire form spring retainer (90) attached to a parking brake lever (40) in order to couple a cable (50) and cable ball (82) with the end of the lever (40). The lever (40) includes a pair of spaced-apart end feet (44, 45) with a longitudinal recess (46) extending therebetween such that the cable (50) is disposed within the longitudinal recess (46) and extends from one side (41) of the lever (40) to the opposite side (43) where the cable ball (82) is received within complementary-shaped openings (42) in each of the feet (44, 45).

  • Patent number: 4844212
Abstract: The mechanically actuated brake (10) with automatic adjustment comprises an integral support plate (20) having first (22) and second (24) axially extending support bars which position associated pairs of brake shoe ends (13, 15, 17, 19). The brake shoe ends (13, 15, 17, 19) are biased together by respective spring mechanisms (16, 18), and the shoes (12, 14) are captured between the support bars (22, 24) and shoe web rests (21). A pawl (60) is attached to one (12) of the brake shoes (12, 14) and is biased by a resilient member (70). The pawl (60) includes a protrusion (66) which slidably engages an axially extending angled ramp surface (25) of the second support bar (24). An end (64) of the pawl (60) engages an adjuster mechanism (50) located between the second pair (17, 19) of brake shoe ends (13, 15, 17, 19).
