  • Patent number: 6817058
Abstract: A self-contained vacuum system attachable to the ceiling of a building is described. The system includes a housing having a hose storage compartment and a vacuum source compartment; a vacuum hose extendable between a retracted position in the hose storage compartment, and an extended position extending from the hose storage compartment; a reversible drive mechanism within the housing to move the hose between retracted and extended positions; a positioning mechanism to lower and raise the housing; a control device in the form of a control handle with switches, connected to the distal end of the hose and a vacuum source mounted in the vacuum source compartment, the hose having an inner end communicating with a debris collector.

  • Patent number: 6560816
Abstract: A central vacuum cleaner system is mounted within the wall of a building and includes an in wall mounted enclosure. The enclosure has a front door moveable between open and closed positions, and a vacuum cleaner bag holder in the enclosure moveable between closed and open positions, so that the door engages the holder when the door is moved from the open to the closed position, thereby moving the bag holder from its open to its closed position. A conduit extends from at least one remotely located hose inlet connector to a distal end within the enclosure, with the distal end being inserted into a bag carried by the bag holder when the bag holder is moved to the closed position. A vacuum source, preferably within the enclosure, is adapted to draw air from the inlet connector into the enclosure.

  • Patent number: 6502274
Abstract: A vacuum cleaner bag mounting assembly for a stationary vacuum cleaner is described that includes a disposable bag housing that includes an open-front enclosure having a conduit connector wall; a hose connection conduit extending inwardly through the connector wall, a debris collection bag holder having a bag attachment wall and being pivotally mounted at one of the front edges of the compartment between a closed position and an open position; a spring urging the bag holder to its open position; and a door pivotally attached at a front edge of said enclosure and having an open position and a closed position, the door engaging the bag holder when moved from the open position to the closed position to move the bag holder from its open position to its closed position.

  • Patent number: 6427284
Abstract: A vacuum hose storage unit for insertion within a wall is described that includes a housing with a nozzle/retractor compartment and a hose storage compartment. An opening in the hose storage compartment is in communication with an external conduit leading to a remote vacuum source. Initially, the housing can be used to connect a separately stored hose to the vacuum source by positioning an inlet connector in the nozzle/retractor compartment, and connecting an internal conduit from the inlet connector to the opening in the hose compartment. Subsequently, the internal conduit can be replaced with a hose that is stored in the hose storage compartment and a retractor to extend the hose through the nozzle/retractor compartment. One part of the nozzle/retractor compartment can be covered with a wall covering, with the retractor being inserted into another part of the nozzle/retractor compartment and then moved behind the wall covering.

  • Patent number: 5740581
Abstract: A central vacuum system mountable between adjacent studs of a wall formed of a cabinet having a top wall, side walls, a rear wall, an upper dividing wall extending beneath the side walls, a lower dividing wall extending between the side walls beneath the upper dividing wall, the walls together forming in enclosure with upper, center and lower compartments; a first hinged door covering the upper compartment, and a second hinged door covering the center and lower compartments; a hose extendable between a stored position in the center compartment, and an extended position extending from the upper compartment, the hose having an inner end and a distal end connected to a handle stored position in the upper compartment; a reversible drive means within the center compartment to move the hose between stored and extended positions; and a vacuum source mounted in the lower compartment, the inner end of the hose communicating with the vacuum source.

  • Patent number: 5740582
Abstract: A central vacuum hose storage unit to be positioned between the studs of a wall having upper and lower storage chambers and a reversible hose drive assembly positioned to deploy a vacuum hose from a stored position in the lower chamber outwardly through the upper chamber. The drive assembly includes a pair of spaced drive rollers each including a toothed gear with a central shaft opening, and a hose engaging member secured to the gear, the periphery of the roller members having opposed concave faces together defining a hose receiving nip, and radially extending, equally spaced, flexible hose engaging segments extending transversely across the concave faces, and a reversible drive means operatively connected to both roller gears.

  • Patent number: 5417178
Abstract: The invention provides a controller for moving a boat mounted pole device, such as a marine antenna, from a normally vertical orientation to a substantially horizontal orientation so as to avoid interference with a bridge or other structure under which the boat is passing. The antenna is mounted to a rotatable shaft which is held by a control arm. When the antenna is vertical, the control arm is held by a latch. When necessary to move the antenna to a horizontal orientation, a mechanical actuator connected to the control arm and the latch first opens the latch and then moves the arm so as to rotate the shaft and the antenna. An electrical circuit is provided to sequentially actuate multiple antennas and avoid possible contact between adjacent antennas during movement.
