  • Patent number: 5931537
Abstract: A vertically and rotatably adjustable chair arm assembly is secured to a support tube mounted to a chair seat. The chair arm assembly includes a lower outer shell and a plastic sleeve received within an axial bore of the outer shell. A plastic collet is concentrically positioned within the sleeve. The plastic collet includes upstanding positioning tabs adapted for engagement with longitudinally extending alignment grooves formed on the interior surface of the sleeve. The chair arm assembly is secured on the support tube by sliding the sleeve and outer shell slide over the outer surface of the support tube. The plastic collet extends into the upper end of the support tube so that the metal support tube surface is sandwiched between the plastic sleeve and the plastic collet. A lock mechanism having a locking arm telescopically positioned within the plastic collet is pivotally connected to the outer shell.

  • Patent number: 5322491
Abstract: An exercise apparatus (10) includes a frame (12) on which left and right levers (14) and (16) are pivotally mounted. A resistance mechanism (18) resists pivoting of the levers between nominal and displaced positions. The levers are coupled by a linkage (20), including an elongate coil spring (22) and an internal extension-limiting cable (24). The linkage normally acts to urge each of the first and second levers toward its respective nominal position when the other of the first and second levers is in a displaced position. The coil spring is capable of elongating to permit limited non-synchronous motion of the left and right levers, with the elongation of the coil spring being limited by the presence of the extension-limiting cable.

  • Patent number: 5320588
Abstract: An exercise apparatus (10) includes left and right levers (14, 16) mounted on a frame (12) to pivot about a first pivot axis (17). The left and right levers are connected to the first ends of corresponding left and right shock absorbers (18, 20). The second ends of the left and right shock absorbers are pivotally mounted on the frame by a mounting mechanism (22), including a threaded rod (78), for adjustable positioning of the second ends of the shock absorbers relative to the first pivot axis of the levers. The present invention provides for simultaneous adjustment of the resistance offered by the two shock absorbers against rotation of corresponding independent levers.

  • Patent number: 5318490
Abstract: An exercise apparatus having foot beams (38a, 40a) rotatably mounted to an upright post member (140a) of a frame to rotate about a first axis (322). Hand levers (132a, 134a) are secured to pivot members (152a) pivotally mounted to the upright post member to rotate about a second axis (328). The hand levers are coupled by resilient linkage members (380) including elastomeric joints (382) to the foot levers so that as each foot lever rotates about the first axis, the corresponding hand lever normally rotates a related distance about the second axis. The linkage members are resiliently deformable to allow discontinuity between the rotation of the foot levers and hand levers when an exerciser exerts a differential force on the hand levers relative to the corresponding foot levers.

  • Patent number: 5163885
Abstract: An exercise treadmill (10) includes a main frame (12) on which is mounted an endless belt (14) trained over a forward drive roller (16) and a rearward idler roller (18) both axled on the main frame. A deck (20) closely underlies and supports the upper run of the endless belt. A subframe (22) is pivotally mounted on the forward position of the main frame 12 adjacent the front of the deck (20) to pivot relative to the main frame about the same transverse axis (24) about which the drive roller is powered by an electric motor (28) mounted on the subframe (22). The orientation of subframe (22) relative to the main frame is selectively alterable through a linear actuator (26) which may be controlled while standing on the treadmill deck (20).
