    Abstract: A method for culturing animal cells in vitro in a monolayer by supporting the cells on the surface of a solid porous matrix and contacting the cells so supported with a liquid medium in the form of a foam. As the foam comes into contact with the matrix it breaks down and flows over the surface of the cells as a film, leaving gas in the interstitial spaces.
