  • Patent number: 10412174
Abstract: A first virtual function is instantiated using a virtual infrastructure that is deployed over at least one server in a communication system. A first subset of interface modules is selected from a set of interface modules and a first interface to the first virtual function is configured using the first subset. Communication is established between the first virtual function and a second virtual function over the first interface based on a first interface module in the first subset and a second interface module. A second interface to the second virtual function is configured using the second interface module. The first interface module is compatible with the second interface module.

  • Publication number: 20180262978
Abstract: A small cell includes a transceiver configured to receive and access request from a wireless-enabled device. The small cell also includes a processor configured to selectively provide the wireless-enabled device with private access to an enterprise network and public access to one or more core networks of mobile network operators based on an identifier included in the access request. The wireless-enabled device includes a transceiver configured to receive, from the small cell, broadcast information including an identifier of the enterprise network or the one or more core networks. The wireless-enabled device also includes a processor configured to compare the broadcast information to configuration information stored in the wireless-enabled device. The configuration information includes identifiers of the enterprise network or the core networks. The processor is configured to selectively provide the access request to the small cell based on the comparison.

  • Patent number: 8340687
Abstract: The invention includes a method and apparatus for activating a base station. A method includes transitioning the base station to a first state in which at least one base station activation activity is performed and RF transmissions are disabled, and transitioning the base station from the first state to a second state in which RF transmissions are enabled. The at least one base station activation activity may include at least one of warming at least one power amplifier, setting at least one base station configuration parameter, establishing GPS synchronization, and other base station activation activities. The base station may transition from the first state to the second state in response to a trigger.

  • Patent number: 8264965
Abstract: Various exemplary embodiments are a method and related device and computer-readable medium including one or more of the following: receiving a packet sent from the source node to the destination node; associating the packet with an active flow by accessing information in the packet; performing deep packet inspection (DPI) to identify an application associated with the active flow; associating application-identifying information with the packet; forwarding the packet including the application-identifying information towards the destination node; and performing application-specific processing at a downstream device on at least one packet belonging to the active flow, the downstream device identifying the application associated with the active flow by extracting the application-identifying information from the packet.

  • Patent number: 6351654
Abstract: Sharing the existing sector antennas at the base station each of which corresponds to one sector of the outer communication coverage area to create an omnidirectional inner communication coverage area. When transmitting or receiving data from a mobile in one sector of the outer communication coverage area only one antenna is used, and when transmitting or receiving data from a mobile in the inner communication coverage area all the antennas are used. This allows an increase in capacity of the hybrid inner/outer sectored cell without the additional cost of adding further antennas.

  • Patent number: 6002673
Abstract: Interference signal power in a TDMA communication system is determined by taking samples of a received signal. The TDMA system has a plurality of communication frequencies with sequences of frames communicated at each of the communication frequencies. Each of the frames contain a plurality of time slots, where each time slot is associated with a communication channel. The interference signal power is determined by receiving a signal at one of the plurality of communication frequencies. The signal is sampled for at least one frame period. The interference signal power is calculated using the M larger amplitude samples of the signal, where M is the number of samples that are taken during a period of time that corresponds to a length of one time slot.
