  • Patent number: 7674609
Abstract: Crypthecodinium cohnii, or microorganisms derived from Crypthecodinium cohnii, are grown in a culture medium including propionic acid. The propionic acid increases the production of one or more of dry cell weight, total lipid and docosahexaenoic acid.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: February 4, 2002
Date of Patent: March 9, 2010
    Assignee: The University of Hull
Inventors: Colin Ratledge, Alistair James Anderson, Kanagasooriyam Kanagachandran
  • Patent number: 6977166
Abstract: C. cohnii is cultured in a suitable growth medium with acetic acid/acetate as the main carbon source. The acetate is provided, and replenished, by adding acetic acid to the growth medium in response to an increase in pH resulting from the utilisation of acetic acid/acetate by C. cohnii. The C. cohnii produces relatively high levels of docosahexaenoic acid (DHA). A stationary phase is not essential for satisfactory DHA production.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: July 13, 2000
Date of Patent: December 20, 2005
Assignees: The University of Hull, ATV BV
Inventors: Colin Ratledge, Alistair James Anderson, Kanagasooriyam Kanagachandran, David John Grantham, Janet Christine Stephenson, Martin E. de Swaaf, Lolke Sijtsma

  • Patent number: 6379937
Abstract: The present invention relates to a novel process for the preparation of mixture of 19 hydroxyeicosatetraenoic acid and 20 hydroxyeicosatetraenoic acid (19 HETE and 20 HETE) by biotransformation of Arachidonic acid or Poly Unsaturated Fatty Acids (PUFA) with yeast as the biotransforming agent.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: December 18, 2000
Date of Patent: April 30, 2002
Assignee: Council of Scientific and Industrial Research
Inventors: Asmita Ashutosh Prabhune, Colin Ratledge
