  • Patent number: 8286733
Abstract: A rotary steerable tool is provided for use with a drilling apparatus. The rotary steerable tool includes at least a first portion that includes an outer housing, a rotary shaft extending through the outer housing, a drive clutch coupled to the rotary shaft, and a sensor coupled to the rotary shaft. The drive clutch is movable between an engaged configuration and a disengaged configuration. The sensor is configured to identify whether the drive clutch is in at least one of the engaged configuration and the disengaged configuration.

    Assignee: General Electric Company
Inventors: Rory McCrae Tulloch, Colin Robert Blair, John Oates
  • Patent number: 8198715
Abstract: A MEMS transducer includes a substrate, a membrane layer and a back-plate layer. The membrane layer is supported by the substrate. The back-plate layer is supported by the membrane layer and includes a respective sidewall portion and a respective raised portion. One or more columns, separate from the sidewall portion of the back-plate layer, connect the back-plate layer, the membrane layer and the substrate.

  • Publication number: 20120136236
Abstract: A method of generating an image of a segment of a lumen structure comprises acquiring volumetric image data that comprises image data representative of a longitudinal segment of a lumen structure, extracting the segment of lumen structure from the volumetric image, calculating a thickness of planar MPR slab that at least encompasses the longitudinal segment of lumen structure, and rendering a planar MPR slab image based on the thickness and the volumetric image data.

  • Patent number: 8189969
Abstract: A switch having two apertured plates one of which is movable relative to the other to occupy spaced switch positions, the apertures being arranged in the plates so that in each switch position two or more pairs of apertures are aligned and all others are masked, wherein light transmitted through a selected one of the two or more aligned aperture pairs in a particular switch position is visible through an external switch position indicating window to thereby provide an unambiguous indication that the movable plate is positively registered in the particular switch position.

  • Patent number: 8103070
Abstract: Volume rendering of images of four dimensional (4D) heart image data, in particular cardiac CT data by slab multiplanar reformatting (MPR), is improved by providing an automated method and apparatus for determining and locking onto anatomically relevant viewing parameters. In particular the view plane, view axis and view orientation are changed from frame to frame in the movie so they remain fixed to an anatomical feature of interest, thereby providing a stable movie of the heart feature of interest. Provision of a dynamic view plane compensates not only for translational motion of the heart feature of interest, but also for its tilting and twisting. Tilting effects are highly significant when viewing heart valves, since the valve plane exhibits varying angles of tilt through the heart phases as a result of the generally tubular arteries and veins exhibiting a bending motion.

  • Publication number: 20110303994
Abstract: A micro-electrical-mechanical system (MEMS) transducer comprises a layer of dielectric material having an electrode formed in the layer of dielectric material. A region of the layer of the dielectric material is adapted to provide a leakage path which, in use, removes unwanted charge from the layer of dielectric material.

  • Publication number: 20110173763
Abstract: The invention provides a process for aminoarylating cellulosic materials such as cotton and reconstituted fibres and a process for treating the aminoarylated cellulose with an effect chemical such as a dye, flame retardant or cross linking agent. Improved take up of the effect chemical by the modified cellulose means increased efficiency in the process and in the case of dyeing, avoids or reduces the washing off of hydrolysed dye and the resultant production of large volumes of contaminated water requiring to be treated. The cellulosic material may be present in a blend with other types of fibre for example a blend with poly(alkyleneterephthalates) or polyamides.
