  • Patent number: 10995277
Abstract: Described herein are systems and methods for control of an overhead crude section of a hydrocarbon refining process. In one aspect, the method comprises monitoring a plurality of operating conditions of an overhead crude section of a refinery; determining hydrogen chloride and amine conditions of the overhead crude section of the refinery at current operating conditions of the overhead crude section; determining a plurality of fields of action by simulating a variation of one or more of the plurality of conditions; determining a risk indicator of salting for each of the plurality of fields of action; and providing a recommended change in operation of the overhead crude section to one of the plurality of fields of action while adhering to one or more constraints.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: December 2, 2016
Date of Patent: May 4, 2021
    Assignee: BL TECHNOLOGIES, INC.
Inventors: Collin Wade Cross, Zhaoyang Wan

  • Patent number: 8398849
Abstract: A system and method are outlined for controlling and optimizing chemical injection into a process unit to control fouling. The method uses an optical device to measure the fouling propensity of the process fluid at various points within the process unit. The measurements are compared with one another and prediction methods are used to evaluate the fouling potential within the unit, and determine the proper chemical dosage. Antifoulant chemical is then introduced into the unit to control the rate of fouling. The method and application continue on a frequent basis to maintain optimal fouling control within the unit.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: December 3, 2009
Date of Patent: March 19, 2013
    Assignee: General Electric Company
Inventors: Collin Wade Cross, Andre Vanhove, David Owen
  • Patent number: 7818156
Abstract: A method includes assessing corrosion in a refinery operation having a piping network. Assessing can include identifying in a petroleum sample a presence and an amount of a species determined to be potentially corrosive to corrodible equipment in a refinery. A corrosion risk presented by the presence, the amount, and the boiling point of the species is determined. And, the corrosion risk is evaluated in view of piping network information. A system for implementing the method is provided, also.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: November 5, 2007
Date of Patent: October 19, 2010
    Assignee: General Electric Company
Inventors: Pramod Vachhani, Sunil Shirish Shah, Collin Wade Cross, Yatin Tayalia, Nishith Pramod Vora, Raghunandan Murthy
