  • Publication number: 20240403616
Abstract: An activation function in a neural network may be approximated by one or more linear functions. A linear function may correspond to a segment of the input range of the activation function, e.g., a linear segment. A programmable look-up table may store slopes and intercepts of linear functions. A post processing engine (PPE) array executing the activation function may determine that an input data element of the activation function falls into the linear segment and compute an output of the linear function using the input data element. The output of the linear function may be used as the approximated output of the activation function. Alternatively, the PPE array may determine that the input data element is in a saturation segment and use a fixed value associated with the saturation segment as the approximated output of the activation function.

  • Patent number: 11822828
Abstract: Storage objects are mapped to host applications in a storage domain. Each of the storage objects is analyzed to determine importance in terms of predetermined criteria such as quality of service of the storage object, replication level of the storage object, size of the storage object, input-output loading of the storage object, and input-output loading of a host application that uses the storage object. Storage objects that satisfy predetermined importance characteristics are automatically tagged with the name of the host application that uses the storage object. The storage objects may also be tagged with the names of data structures that satisfy predetermined importance characteristics. Storage groups, masking views, and volume devices may also be tagged.

  • Patent number: 11382335
Abstract: A process for producing pure lactic acid from a whey by-product rich in lactose and minerals, for example delactosed why permeate or concentrated whey permeate, is described. The method comprises upstream steps of neutralising the whey by-product with a basic metal hydroxide to form a precipitate comprising calcium and phosphate, and separating the precipitate from the whey by-product to provide a clarified whey by-product. The clarified whey by-product is fermentated by a bacterium capable of bioconversion of lactose to lactic acid to provide a fermentation broth containing a lactic acid salt. In the downstream steps, the fermentation broth is acidified to release lactic acid from the lactic acid salt, precipitate from the broth produced by acidification is removed, and the acidified fermentation broth is treated to recover pure lactic acid by removal of residual salts, and water, and optionally protein.
