  • Patent number: 11027660
Abstract: The present disclosure relates to a swing-in-place vehicle article carrier system for supporting articles above an outer body surface of a vehicle. The system has a front pair and rear pairs of support structures fixedly secured to the outer body surface. A first modular cross bar assembly is included which has a central portion, a latching module assembly secured at a first end of the central portion, and a pivot module secured at a second end of the central portion. The pivot module is coupled to one of the front pair of support structures for enabling pivoting motion of the first cross bar assembly between operative and stowed positions. In the operative position, the first modular cross bar assembly spans widthwise across the outer body surface. In the stowed position the cross bar assembly is secured to a second one of the rear pair of support structures to form a continuous span between the second ones of the pairs of front and rear support structures.

  • Patent number: 10196008
Abstract: A cargo management system for use with a motor vehicle cargo area having a floor. The system uses front, center are rear divider panels each configured to lay flat adjacent the floor when in a stowed position, and each is pivotally moveably into an upright, operative position. A first latching mechanism is used to releasably latch the front divider in the upright, operative position. The center divider panel is pivotally moveable from a stowed position to an operative position. The rear divider panel is pivotally moveable from a stowed position resting generally flat on the floor of the cargo area to an upright, operative position. A second latching mechanism is used to releasably hold the rear divider panel in the upright, operative position.

  • Patent number: 9643542
Abstract: The present disclosure relates to a cross bar for a vehicle article carrier that may be releasably secured to a support rail. The cross bar has an end support at each end thereof for securing the cross bar to the support rail. Each end support has a main body configured to engage with a portion of the support rail, an opening in the main body, and a latching element moveably supported from the main body. A threaded member is used for controlling engagement of the latching member with the support rail. The threaded member has a head portion which engages with portions of a spring clip secured in the opening. This helps prevent loosening of the threaded member after it has been tightened.

  • Patent number: 9539948
Abstract: The present disclosure relates to a telescoping step system which has at least one stringer assembly having telescopically coupled first and second tubular components. The second tubular component is telescopically extendable relative to the first tubular component. The stringer assembly is operably associated with a structure. The system further has at least one step assembly associated with one of the first and second tubular components. The stringer assembly is telescopically collapsible into a retracted position to form a compact assembly either adjacent to or within a portion of the structure, and extendable into an extended position extending outwardly from the structure. In the extended position the stringer assembly presents the step assembly as a platform which a user is able to step on to, and thus aids the user with ingress into and egress from the structure.

  • Patent number: 8235264
Abstract: A vehicle article carrier system is adapted to be secured to an outer body surface of a vehicle. The system may include a pair of support rails secured to the outer body surface and at least one cross bar. The cross bar may have end supports that are able to pivot. The end supports may be secured to the support rails to place the cross bars in an operative position extending generally perpendicularly between the support rails, and elevationally above the support rails. The end supports may also enable the cross bar to be placed in a stowed position along the slats where each of the end supports lay generally co-linear with a central portion its respective cross bar.

  • Patent number: 6866175
Abstract: A bicycle carrier adapted to be secured to an article carrier portion of an existing vehicle article carrier so as to carry the bicycle supported thereon in a vertical orientation over a liftgate of a vehicle, and normal to an outer surface of the liftgate. The bicycle carrier includes a wheel supporting member for engaging one wheel of a bicycle when the bicycle is placed in a vertical orientation. A frame supporting assembly engages a portion of the frame to hold the bicycle to the bicycle carrier. The bicycle carrier permits a single individual to load and unload a bicycle from the bicycle carrier without being required to lift the bicycle up onto the roof of a vehicle. Since the bicycle is supported at an angle generally normal to the liftgate, visibility through the rear window of the liftgate is also improved when a bicycle is being supported on the bicycle carrier.
