  • Publication number: 20260085590
Abstract: A pair of blades in a shear ram of a blow-out preventer for cutting a tubular includes an upper blade and a lower blade. The lower blade shears the tubular in concert with the upper blade, the lower blade having a multi-point geometry to initiate shearing the tubular. The upper blade guides the tubular into a pocket-like geometry opposite the multi-point geometry of the lower blade. A blow-out preventor includes a blind ram, a shear ram, and a pipe ram, each including two ram blocks configured to extend into a bore to seal a bore. The shear ram includes an upper blade and a lower blade, where the lower blade shears the tubular in concert with the upper blade, the lower blade having a multi-point geometry to initiate shearing the tubular, the upper blade to guide the tubular into a pocket-like geometry opposite the multi-point geometry of the lower blade.

  • Patent number: 12584368
Abstract: Blowout preventer (BOP) systems and methods for operating a BOP. The BOP systems include an apparatus configured to isolate wellbore fluids and a BOP housing radially surrounding the apparatus. The apparatus includes a packing unit and a piston located downhole of the packing unit. The packing unit includes an elastomeric packer having first metal inserts and second metal inserts disposed axially through the elastomeric packer. The first metal inserts and the second metal inserts have an elongated portion coupled to a first end having a first prong and a second end having a second prong. Methods for operating a BOP system include providing the BOP system to a wellhead, the BOP system including an apparatus configured to isolate wellbore fluids, applying a pressure to the apparatus in a series of stages, and sealing a central circumference of the apparatus when a closing pressure is applied to the apparatus.

  • Patent number: 11692409
Abstract: A shear ram system includes an upper block coupled to a first arm, the upper block positioned to transition from a first location outside a bore to a second location within the bore, the upper block including an upper blade having a cutout formed at a radially outward end, the cutout having a cutout profile. The shear ram system also includes a lower block coupled to a second arm, the lower block positioned to transition from the first location outside the bore to the second location within the bore, the lower block including a gap control arm including a wear insert arranged axially higher than a lower blade, the gap control arm having an arm profile that substantially conforms to the cutout profile. The wear insert of the gap control arm is configured to engage the cutout when the upper block and the lower block are moved to the second location.

  • Publication number: 20220349774
Abstract: A method for determining a predictive life of a pressure containing component includes determining, from sensor data, one or more cycles. The method also includes generating one or more additional cycles. The method further includes determining a component feature is below a threshold. The method further includes generating one or more supplementary cycles. The method also includes determining, from the one or more cycles, the one or more additional cycles, and the one or more supplementary cycles, the component feature. The method includes determining the component feature exceeds the threshold. The method further includes determining, based at least in part on the one or more supplementary cycles, a predictive life for the pressure containing component.
