Patent number: 10129395Abstract: Systems and methods for visually indicating an occurrence of an incoming call for the hearing impaired are disclosed. A video communication device may be configured to receive an incoming communication to at least two unique identifiers assigned by a video relay service provider. The video communication device can display a unique visual indicator pattern, which may be user-created and user-assigned to the one of the at least two unique identifiers dialed by a caller. The visual indicator pattern may be indicative of the existence an incoming call, the origin of the call, the destination device for the call, the destination ID for the call, or combinations thereof. The video communication device, when receiving an incoming call, may send a wireless notification signal to other communication devices, thereby notifying other devices that a video communication device is receiving an incoming call.Type: GrantFiled: October 26, 2017Date of Patent: November 13, 2018Assignee: SORENSON IP HOLDINGS LLCInventors: Conrad Arlo Maxwell, Mark David Nelson, Brett Thelin, Brent Giles, Eric Von Winsor

Patent number: 9232265Abstract: Techniques and mechanisms for determining an operation mode of an audio-video (AV) device. In an embodiment, communication logic of the AV device may be configured at different times for different ones of a plurality of operation modes including an AV source operation mode for providing AV information to another device and an AV sink operation mode for receiving AV information from another device. In response to a detected event, control logic initializes the communication logic of the AV device into a default mode which prevents operation of the communication logic as an AV source.Type: GrantFiled: March 29, 2012Date of Patent: January 5, 2016Assignee: Lattice Semiconductor CorporationInventors: Conrad Arlo Maxwell, Lance Davies, Graeme P. Patent number: 8976940Abstract: Systems and methods are disclosed for visually indicating an occurrence of an event. A spatial visual indicator system comprises a spatial visual indicator including a plurality of illuminatable elements configured in at least a two-dimensional arrangement. The spatial visual indicator displays a visual indicator pattern corresponding to a detected event. A control circuit is configured to detect an event, and cause a transceiver to send a communication indicating a visual indicator pattern corresponding to the event to the spatial visual indicator. The spatial visual indicator is configured to display the visual indicator pattern. The spatial visual indicator is located remote to the transceiver. A method of indicating an occurrence of an event comprises receiving a communication indicating one of a plurality of visual indicator patterns that is associated with a detected event. The method also includes displaying the one of the plurality of visual indicator patterns.Type: GrantFiled: November 27, 2013Date of Patent: March 10, 2015Assignee: Sorenson Communications, Inc.Inventors: Conrad Arlo Maxwell, Eric Winsor, Lane Walters, Phillip Shimek, Miranda Johnson, Mark Nelson

Patent number: 8976220Abstract: A video call host module comprising a processor configured to decode video data corresponding to videos from endpoints and rank the videos based on motion indicators corresponding to each of the endpoints. The motion indicators are calculated from motion vectors corresponding to each of the videos. A predetermined number of highest-ranking videos are selected for display. A method of hosting a video call includes receiving encoded video data including motion vectors. Videos are ranked based on a motion indicator calculated from the motion vectors for each of the videos. Encoded video data is converted to decoded video data, and decoded video data corresponding to a predetermined number of the highest ranking videos is combined to create a single video.Type: GrantFiled: July 5, 2013Date of Patent: March 10, 2015Assignee: Sorenson Communications, Inc.Inventor: Conrad Arlo Maxwell
