  • Patent number: 11630730
Abstract: Techniques are disclosed for executing a data processing pipeline. The techniques may include receiving a job at a data pipeline queue, setting up one or more distributed processing environments, and allocating the job to one of the distributed processing environments. The techniques may further include receiving the allocated job at a job queue within the distributed processing environment, increasing a priority level of the job, and executing the job within the distributed processing environment. The techniques can further include providing a retry pipeline at the data processing pipeline, and re-executing the job at a stage following a failure of at least one of its components. The techniques may decrement the retry budget as the job is re-executed.

  • Patent number: 7546629
Abstract: A system providing methods for a device to apply a security policy required for connection to a network is described. In response to receipt of a request from a device for connection to a particular network, a current policy to apply to said device for governing the connection to this particular network is determined from a plurality of available security policies available to the device. This current policy to apply to said device is generated by merging a plurality of security policies available for governing connections. After said current policy is applied to the device, the connection from the device to this particular network is allowed to proceed.

  • Publication number: 20060143700
Abstract: A security system providing methodology for cooperative enforcement of security policies during SSL sessions is described. In one embodiment, for example, a method is described for controlling SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) communication, the method comprises steps of: defining rules indicating conditions under which a machine is permitted to participate in an SSL session; trapping an attempt by a particular application running on the machine to participate in an SSL session, by intercepting the particular application's attempt to provide authentication; determining whether the machine complies with the rules; allowing the attempt to succeed when the machine complies with the rules; and otherwise blocking the attempt when the machine does not comply with the rules.

  • Publication number: 20030167405
Abstract: A system providing methodologies for automatically detecting when a computing device is plugged into a new network is described. The system includes methods for detecting a connection to a new network by receiving notice of, and evaluating, changes to an existing network configuration. The system profiles and generates an identity for the new network. This includes collecting information about the network to uniquely identify it and generating a unique identifier for the network. Once a network has been profiled, a user may decide whether or not to include it as part of a trusted zone. Alternatively, this decision may be guided by policy established by a system administrator or user. The system automatically reconfigures a firewall to include or exclude the network from the trusted zone based upon this decision. The profile of each network is stored so that the next time the device is connected to the same network it remembers the network and applies the same security settings previously adopted.

  • Patent number: 5995756
Abstract: A development system is described which provides a form-based development environment for partitioning an application such that it can be seamlessly integrated into corporate Webs (i.e., "intranets"). A form is implemented as an "application page" and published as an ActiveX object. Specifically, a new "application" page MIME type is defined: application/x-appdoc. This contains information necessary to create a document (e.g., Microsoft ActiveX Document) locally but, in addition, also includes information necessary to find and download the program code for rendering the view of the document. If the program code is already present locally, it need only be downloaded for purpose of updating the local copy. Once a form is built into an ActiveX object and digitally signed, it can be downloaded to a client and run in a Web browser, such as Microsoft Internet Explorer.

  • Patent number: 5787416
Abstract: A system of the present invention includes a relational database management system (RDBMS) having a hypertext report writing module. Methods are described for automatically recognizing relations between reports which are generated from the same or related database tables. The system automatically embeds (or assists the user in embedding) appropriate hypertext links so that information from one report may be cross-referenced immediately with information in another, related report. Drill-down hypertext reports of increasing level of detail are illustrated. In addition to drill-down reports, the system may create comprehensive hypertext reports for automatically tying together information which is related through underlying table relations but which ordinarily appears in different reports. By automatically placing hypertext links or cross-indexes between reports, the system ties together relatable information into a single, cross-indexed hypertext report.

  • Patent number: 5737536
Abstract: A client/server system providing methods of utilizing information stored locally on a client even after the client has modified data on the server is described. A client stores data from the server in a local "read-only" buffer(s), to speed up access to the data and reduce network traffic. Since the buffer is treated as a "read only" buffer, no locks are taken out at the server by the client. Accesses to particular data records are satisfied by looking first to the local buffer or cache. The client may proceed to modify the data records and commit changes back to the server. Moreover, the client updates or "writes through" the "read-only" buffer(s) with the changes so that the local buffer remains valid. The methods of updating data stored locally on the client provide significant performance increases as the client does not have to refresh data from the server.
