Patent number: 11876806Abstract: Techniques are disclosed relating to user authentication. In some embodiments, a first computing device receives, from a second computing device, a request for a user credential to be input into an authentication prompt associated with the second device. The first computing device determines a proximity associated with the second computing device based on a received wireless location beacon and, based on the request and the determined proximity, presents a selection prompt asking a user of the first computing device to select a user credential stored in the first computing device. The first computing device then provides the selected user credential to the second computing device to input into the authentication prompt. In some embodiments, the first computing device receives the wireless location beacon from a remote controller of the second computing device and determines a proximity based on a signal strength associated with the received location beacon.Type: GrantFiled: June 24, 2022Date of Patent: January 16, 2024Assignee: Apple Inc.Inventors: Conrad A. Shultz, Alexander D. Sanciangco, Brent M. Ledvina, Chelsea E. Pugh, Kyle C. Brogle, Marc J. Krochmal, Maureen G. Daum, Reza Abbasian, Richard J. Mondello, Jacob S. Klapper

Patent number: 11227063Abstract: Embodiments described herein provide a privacy mechanism to protect user data when transmitting the data to a server that estimates a frequency of such data amongst a set of client devices. In one embodiment, a differential privacy mechanism is implemented using a count-mean-sketch technique that can reduce resource requirements required to enable privacy while providing provable guarantees regarding privacy and utility. For instance, the mechanism can provide the ability to tailor utility (e.g. accuracy of estimations) against the resource requirements (e.g. transmission bandwidth and computation complexity).Type: GrantFiled: September 14, 2020Date of Patent: January 18, 2022Assignee: Apple Inc.Inventors: Abhishek Bhowmick, Andrew H. Vyrros, Umesh S. Vaishampayan, Kevin W. Decker, Conrad Shultz, Steve Falkenburg, Mateusz Rajca

Patent number: 11120123Abstract: In accordance with some embodiments, a method is performed at an electronic device with a display device and one or more input devices. The method includes displaying, via the display device, a user interface that includes a new-password field. The method includes detecting, via the one or more input devices, a user input that corresponds to selection of the new-password field. In response to detecting the user input that corresponds to selection of the new-password field, the method includes displaying, on the display device, a representation of a new automatically-generated password in the new-password field and displaying, on the display device, an affordance to accept the new automatically-generated password and an affordance to decline to use the new automatically-generated password.Type: GrantFiled: May 30, 2019Date of Patent: September 14, 2021Assignee: Apple Inc.Inventors: Conrad A. Patent number: 10776511Abstract: Embodiments described herein provide a privacy mechanism to protect user data when transmitting the data to a server that estimates a frequency of such data amongst a set of client devices. One embodiment uses a differential privacy mechanism to enhance a user experience by inferring potential user preferences from analyzing crowdsourced user interaction data. Based on a statistical analysis of user interactions in relation to various features or events, development efforts with respect to application behavior may be refined or enhanced. For example, user interactions in relation to the presentation of content such as content from online sources may be analyzed. Accordingly, presentation settings or preferences may be defined based on the crowdsourced user interaction data.Type: GrantFiled: November 7, 2017Date of Patent: September 15, 2020Assignee: Apple Inc.Inventors: Kevin W. Patent number: 10616464Abstract: A method of automatically activating a camera application implemented in a mobile device in locked mode starts with the processor receiving a first signal from an accelerometer. The device's processor activates the camera application when the processor determines that the mobile device has remained in a stationary portrait or landscape position for a period of time based on the first signal. Activating the camera application includes signaling by the processor to the display device to display a camera screen from a locked screen. The processor may also receive a second signal from a proximity sensor that detects presence of a nearby object to the mobile device. When the processor determines that there is presence of the nearby object to the mobile device based on the second signal, the mobile device remains in locked mode and the processor does not activate the camera application.Type: GrantFiled: July 20, 2018Date of Patent: April 7, 2020Assignee: Apple Inc.Inventor: Conrad A.
