Patent number: 5104313Abstract: A combustible fluid lighter includes a body with a reservoir for combustible fluid and a striking mechanism. A movable control member has at least two degrees of freedom and is manually actuated. The assembly of the control member and striking mechanism is a kinematic train which includes a coupling having two parts that are uncoupled in a rest position. At least one of these parts is displaceable for engagement by a movement of the control member other than that necessary for actuating the striking device. A resilient member is provided to return the coupling to its uncoupled position. The actuating member is a rotatable wheel adapted to drive in rotation a portion of the striking mechanism. The coupling can be a clutch device, in which case a relative axial displacement between the rotatable wheel and a portion of the striking device is necessary for engaging the two parts of the coupling.Type: GrantFiled: September 18, 1990Date of Patent: April 14, 1992Assignee: Parnat S.A.Inventor: Conrad Zellweger

Patent number: 5051220Abstract: In order to form a heating element, a coil-shaped hollow path, cut into a plate (10), is filled with an exothermally reacting pulverulent mixture and is compressed by means of a correspondingly shaped pusher (13), a platen being then applied to the upper face of the plate (10). Thereafter, the coil (2) comprised of compressed reactive mixture is lifted above the plate (10) and covered with a refractory powder to which a binder has been added and the assembly is then compressed by means of a piston (36; FIG. 6). The assembly is then placed into a metal container (5) intended to diffuse the heat for heating for example foodstuffs, after the reactive mixture has been ignited through the opening (22).Type: GrantFiled: September 21, 1987Date of Patent: September 24, 1991Inventors: Victor Spreter, Conrad Zellweger

Patent number: 4658871Abstract: The valve comprises a stationary part (1, 2), a mobile part (9) and a fluid-tight seal (15). This fluid-tight seal (15) consists of two portions (16, 17) axially separated by a cylindrical part (18). During filling, the connection (30) of the recharging tank moves the mobile part (9) downward against the action of a spring (10). A projection (31) works with the portion (16) of the seal to bring this latter downward. A ramp (32) guides the portion (17) of the seal to the connection (30). At the end of the path, this portion (17) is squeezed between the stationary part (1, 2) and the connection to assure a complete fluid-tightness of the filling passage (25) to the outside and a perfect separation of the two filling (25) and escape (21) passages. In the closed position of the valve, the upper part of the part (9) is engaged in the opening provided for the passage of the connection ( 30).Type: GrantFiled: April 11, 1985Date of Patent: April 21, 1987Inventors: Yves Gendey, Conrad Zellweger

Patent number: 4583940Abstract: An igniter for combustible material includes a support, an element of a material capable of being ignited by friction, a movable friction-strip having a surface portion treated to produce ignition of the element by friction, and a plate secured to the support for holding and guiding the friction-strip is provided with an opening in front of the element. In operation, the friction-strip is pulled through the igniter, which brings the surface portion into frictional contact with the ignitable element and then uncovers the latter when ignited; the flame therefrom is available through the opening in the plate. Because the ignitable element is enclosed in a space between the support and the friction-strip, it is protected against destruction by mechanical impact or by humidity, as well as against accidental ignition due to friction with another body.Type: GrantFiled: November 23, 1984Date of Patent: April 22, 1986Inventors: Conrad Zellweger, Victor C.
