Publication number: 20050184486Abstract: A gas bag module includes a covering cap (10), an annular space (34) lying beneath the covering cap (10) and a gas bag (36) housed in the annular space (34) with a ring-shaped chamber (40) extended around an indentation (38) which is not inflated. The indentation (38) is formed in that a clamping section (44) of the gas bag wall, which is spaced apart from an inflation opening of the gas bag (36), is permanently fastened to an end wall (24), close to the covering cap (10), of one of a diffusor cage (18) and a gas generator (16). The covering cap (10) has a cap centre (52) permanently fastened to the end wall (24), which in an opened state of the gas bag module is surrounded by a ring-shaped outlet opening (60). A spacer, provided as a separate part, is arranged beneath the covering cap (10) and above the end wall (24). The spacer fixes the clamping section (44) of the gas bag (36).Type: ApplicationFiled: February 18, 2005Publication date: August 25, 2005Inventors: Michael Schneider, Constantin Hauer, Alexander Limberger, Alfred Scheuermann

Publication number: 20050093279Abstract: A gas bag module (10) includes a gas bag (56) having a front wall, a center section (58) of the front wall being fastened to the gas bag module (10) and being prevented from a free movement on an unfolding of the gas bag (56). The gas bag module (10) further includes a diffusor (22) having a first diffusor element (24) fixed to the module, and a second diffusor element (26) displaceable with respect to the first diffusor element (24) by a predetermined limited displacement path (d) in an axial direction (A). The gas bag module further comprises a gas generator (16) arranged below the diffusor (22) and a covering cap (42) having a central section (50) which is fastened by at least one fastening means to the second diffusor element (26; 326; 326?). The diffusor elements (24, 26) are constructed so that the second diffusor element (26) is not displaceable in a peripheral direction (U) relative to the first diffusor element (24).Type: ApplicationFiled: October 6, 2004Publication date: May 5, 2005Inventors: Constantin Hauer, Alexander Limberger

Patent number: 6871720Abstract: A steering device for a motor vehicle has a stationary steering wheel rim, a measurement transducer integrated into the steering wheel rim and provided for generating an electric or electronic signal, and an actuator that can be actuated as a function of the electronic signal in order to adjust steerable wheels. The measurement transducer comprises touch-sensitive sensors on the circumference of the steering wheel rim which detect a position and movement of the hands of a driver touching the steering wheel rim and generate the electric or electronic signal that corresponds to the position and the movement of the hands. An electronic unit for detecting the signal and converting it into a steering signal for controlling the actuator is associated with the measurement transducer.Type: GrantFiled: December 18, 2002Date of Patent: March 29, 2005Assignee: TRW Automotive Safety Systems GmbHInventors: Constantin Hauer, Axel Wulf

Publication number: 20050023804Abstract: In a vehicle steering wheel, comprising a gas bag module, which has at least one first detent element, and a hub region, in which at least one second detent element is arranged, the second detent element and the first detent element undergoing a detent connection for fastening the gas bag module on the hub region. One of the detent elements has at least one unlocking section movable with respect to the at least one other detent element. The steering wheel has at least one access opening in the hub region, through which a dismantling tool is introduced in an introduction direction into the steering wheel and comes to abut against the unlocking section for a movement thereof in an unlocking direction. In a region of the access opening a support projection is provided, which is arranged with respect to the unlocking section so that with a lever movement for movement of the unlocking section in unlocking direction, the dismantling tool is supported on the support projection and tilts around it.Type: ApplicationFiled: July 22, 2004Publication date: February 3, 2005Inventors: Constantin Hauer, Alexander Limberger

Patent number: 6811181Abstract: The invention relates to a gas bag module comprising a gas generator and an elastic bearing element by means of which the gas generator is mounted so as to be neutralized with regard to vibrations in the gas bag module. The bearing element is electrically conductive and forms a part of an electrical earth lead for the gas generator. The invention further relates to a steering wheel comprising a gas bag module equipped with a gas generator. The gas bag module is mounted on the steering wheel so as to be neutralized with regard to vibrations by means of an elastic bearing element. The elastic bearing element is electrically conductive and forms a part of an earth lead of the gas generator.Type: GrantFiled: March 28, 2002Date of Patent: November 2, 2004Assignee: TRW Automotive Safety Systems GmbH & Co. Patent number: 6695344Abstract: An airbag module comprises an airbag and a front cover which is made of plastic. The front cover has a middle part and, surrounding the middle part, a predefined outlet opening for the airbag. In the closed state of said cover, the opening is surrounded by a ring-shaped part of the cover. The ring-shaped part is removed to free the outlet opening when the airbag is unfolded. The middle part is attached to the module in such a way that, when the airbag unfolds, the middle part is prevented from moving freely. The module further comprises a reinforcement ring which is embedded in the middle part and runs adjacent and along an inner edge of the ring-shaped part of the cover and attaches the middle part to the module, preventing it from moving freely when the airbag unfolds.Type: GrantFiled: July 31, 2002Date of Patent: February 24, 2004Assignee: TRW Automotive Safety Systems GmbH & Co.
