  • Publication number: 20030147785
Abstract: An air cleaner is described wherein an ion wind is generated by an ionizing element and directed to pass over a dust collector surface. By proper design and adjustment of the ionizing element and collector, the unit can be operated without emitting charged particles, if any, in other than the direction of orientation of the dust collector surface and thus avoiding smudging of the surrounding walls. The collector may be cylindrical in form and may be separately detachable, rendering it readily available for cleaning.

  • Patent number: 6497754
Abstract: A pleated filter is provided with electrically conductive fibrous material that releases ions to improve trapping efficiency. The edges of folded filter media are rendered emitting as by attaching conductive strings to the edges of the folds. The ends of the fibers in the strings are left exposed and, by applying high voltage on these strings, ions may be produced which charge dust particles to improve the filter's efficiency. Alternately, the pleated medium itself provides ion-emitting fiber ends along folded edges that have been rendered conductive.

  • Patent number: 6491743
Abstract: An electrostatic precipitator type filter is combined with replaceable, polarizable trapping media. In one aspect of the invention, the media is fitted between polarizing plates. In another aspect, the media is coated in sections to form a conductive surface which serve as the equivalent to the charged plates of the precipitator. These electrodes may be alternately displaced to provide a ready means to effect electrical connections.

  • Patent number: 6237970
Abstract: A fastener for coupling two members together is provided with a rotatable core carried by a first member and a protruding elbow for insertion through an elongated slot in the second member. By rotating the core, the elbow is caused to swing over the outer surface of the second member, adjacent the slot, coupling the two members together. The inner, member-engaging surface of the elbow is tapered to form a ramp-like surface that, with rotation, draws the two members together and frictionally fixes the elbow in its engaged position. The latch core when installed in a tubular first member may be provided with resiliently based, expanding locking members positioned adjacent to the core to secure the latch within the hollow core of the tubular first member.

  • Patent number: 6077334
Abstract: An air filter assembly includes an ion source positioned adjacent to the front face of an air filter to inject ions into the arriving air flow. The ions penetrate upstream sufficiently far to have ionized the air and charge particles before their arrival at the filter trapping medium. The ion source is preferably sufficiently thin as to allow the filter with the ion source mounted thereon to be inserted into a filter slot in a duct of an air handling unit.

  • Patent number: 6013343
Abstract: A patch for a ducting wall has two sealing portions, one of which may be bent to pass through a torn opening in the ducting wall. When jointed by a coupling means, the two sealing portions may pinch the ducting wall surrounding the torn opening and provide a barrier against the escape of air through the opening.

  • Patent number: 5573577
Abstract: A high efficiency electronic air filter is disclosed in which pads of dielectric fibres are sandwiched between electrically charged, ionizing elements and grounded screens. The ionizing elements charge the dust particles passing through the filter and at the same time polarize the fibrous pads. In this way, the charged particles are attracted and collected on the fibrous pads with improved efficiency.

  • Patent number: 5103155
Abstract: A battery charging system is disclosed including an electronic polarity sensing, monitoring and alarm circuit and a special polarity reversing relay connected between two pairs of booster cables. When one of the pairs of cables is connected to a voltage source and the other pair of cables is connected to a battery to be charged, the circuit and relay automatically connect the source and battery with the correct polarity, even if the battery being charged has a very low voltage across it. The circuit also includes an automatic reset feature which resets the relay to a neutral or off position when either of the pairs of cables is disconnected from a voltage source or battery.
