  • Patent number: 9977245
Abstract: Eyewear for displaying a virtual image comprising a visor for placement in a field of vision of a wearer, a light source in optical communication with the visor, and a reflective surface situated within the visor and configured to direct light projected into the visor from the light source toward at least one eye of the wearer for display as a virtual image. Another eyewear comprising a visor configured to display a virtual image in a field of vision of a wearer, a frame for supporting the visor, and electronics for operating the eyewear, the electronics being integrally embedded within one or more components of the frame.

  • Patent number: 9897886
Abstract: A lens for projecting a virtual image comprising first and second body sections coupled along first and second surfaces to form an internal interface within the lens, and a reflective coating on at least a portion of either the first surface or the second surface configured to redirect light projected into the second body section toward an eye of a wearer. Another lens comprising first and second body sections having different indices of refraction, and an interface configured to redirect light toward an eye of a wearer for display as a virtual image. A method for manufacturing a lens comprising providing a first body section, casting on a first surface of the first body section a material for forming a second body section, and curing the material to form the second body section and bond it to the first body section to form a unitary lens.

  • Publication number: 20170336634
Abstract: A system for displaying a virtual image in a field of vision of a user comprising a lens; a source for emitting a light beam; and a reflector configured to manipulate and direct the light beam to display the image as a virtual image. A method comprising placing a lens having a reflector in front of a user's eye; and projecting, onto the reflector, a light beam associated with an image; manipulating the light beam such that it is focused at a location beyond the reflector and directing it towards the user's eye to display the image as a virtual image. A system comprising first and second lenses, reflectors, and light sources; corresponding pathways along which the light beams are directed from the corresponding source, into the corresponding lens, along a body portion of the corresponding lens, and to the corresponding reflector for display as a virtual image.

  • Publication number: 20170015260
Abstract: Disclosed are systems that allow for data to be shared between vehicles, locking mechanisms, and electronic eyewear. In an embodiment, a system includes a head-worn electronic eyewear device comprising a wireless communication module and an audio or visual system configured to communicate information received via the wireless module to a wearer of the head-worn electronic eyewear device. A vehicle module is configured to communicate wirelessly with the head-worn electronic eyewear device, either directly or through a third-party device, such that vehicle data is communicated to the wireless module of the head-worn electronic eyewear device for communication to the wearer of the head-worn electronic eyewear device. Systems for using a head-worn device to communicate settings data and to authenticating a user are also disclosed. A wireless-enabled device configured to utilize data from three or more sensors in a trilateration function to locate the second wireless-enabled device is further disclosed.

  • Publication number: 20160267714
Abstract: Disclosed are methods and devices for displaying a virtual image in a field of vision of a user without the use of an image sensor. In an embodiment, the device receives first data identifying a user's first location and uses the first data to estimate the user's first location. The estimate of the user's first location is then used to identify at least one user interface element or active element within the user's field of vision. The at least one user interface element or active element is associated with one of a plurality of layered planes in a virtual space. A first version of the user interface element or active element is displayed within a first field of vision of the user. The user's updated location is then used to update the appearance of the representation of the user interface element or active element within a second field of vision of the user.
