  • Patent number: 11237343
Abstract: A device includes an optic in an at least partially rigid scaffold. The scaffold is permeated, at least temporarily during a writing process, by writable media. The optic may be written into a writable volume in the scaffold defined by the writable media. The optic may be written by exposing the writable media to incident light to cause a material property change in the writable media within the writable volume.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: December 6, 2019
Date of Patent: February 1, 2022
Assignee: THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES OF THE UNIVERSITY OF ILLINOIS
Inventors: Lynford L. Goddard, Kimani C. Toussaint, Paul V. Braun, Jinlong Zhu, Daniel Bacon-Brown, Christian H. Ocier, Qing Ding, Corey Richards

  • Patent number: 9456902
Abstract: A method for making an orthopaedic implant, the method comprising: characterizing at least a portion of a bone corresponding to the bone to be replaced, said corresponding bone being on the contralateral side of the patient; providing a model of the orthopaedic implant based on a mirror image of the contralateral bone; and forming the orthopaedic implant based on the model.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: December 5, 2013
Date of Patent: October 4, 2016
Assignee: THE ROYAL INSTITUTION FOR THE ADVANCEMENT OF LEARNING/MCGILL UNIVERSITY
Inventors: Adam S. Hacking, Edward J. Harvey, Corey Richards
  • Publication number: 20140101812
Abstract: A system and method of eye protection during a welding process comprising the steps of: fabricating a lens, where the lens includes a first degree of shading where the first degree of shading provides a first level of eye protection and a second degree of shading, where the second degree of shading provides a second level of protection, wherein the second level of eye protection shields a user's eye from welding flash rays; inserting photochromic sensing technology in the lens, where the photochromic sensing technology detects welding flash rays; and enabling the second degree of shading of the lens upon the detection of welding flash rays. Further, the second degree of shading continues while the lens is exposed to welding flash rays.
