    Abstract: A batch sterilization system is disclosed having a plurality of retorts mounted on at least one indexable turret which sequentially and simultaneously indexes one retort with a loader for receiving containers to be sterilized, while a second retort with sterilized containers therein is indexed with an unloader for unloading. A second embodiment includes a pair of loader/unloaders for loading and unloading a first product in first retorts and a second product in the other retorts.

    Abstract: A batch sterilization system is disclosed for first loading containers to be sterilized into cars, transferring the loaded cars into one of a plurality of retorts arranged in horizontal rows and vertical columns, sterilizing the containers while in the retorts and discharging the containers from the cars, discharging the cars from the retort, unloading the cars and thereafter repeating the cycle. The system includes a plurality of single or double door retorts in horizontal and vertical rows thereby minimizing floor spaced. Different horizontally and vertically spaced retorts may process products requiring different sterilization times in the retorts. A programmable computer is preferably used for performing the several functions of the sterilization system and for keeping track of the location of the containers during and after processing.

Fluids for sterilizing and cooling products in the containers are directed horizontally toward the sides of the containers to provide uniform processing of the products. This can be used with either batch process of products or used in a continuous type sterilizers. Small quantities of water can be pumped around the system to reduce cost of operation.

    Abstract: A harvester for beans and like crop includes a pick-up reel having a width equal to the overall width of the harvester and leading to a first, cleaning, conveyor which terminates at an air passage incorporating a fan for generating a generally vertical air flow. Where the vertical air passage meets the cleaning conveyor, a rotary valve is provided which permits the passage of the beans and other parts of the crop but prevents or at least restricts the passage of the air flow into the space above the upper run of the conveyor.The rotary valve may take the form of a rotary vaned assembly having six vanes each of which is secured to one face of a hexagonal shaft and various forms of rotary valve are also described.

    Abstract: A pea harvester incorporates a threshing device and a system, known per se, which maintains the device in a fixed orientation in space irrespective of the ground contours. To feed the threshing device a series of conveyors is pivoted so that these can continue to supply the threshing device without crop loss even if a local ground irregularity deflects a forward pick-up reel which discharges on to a first one of the conveyors. The pick-up reel has a width at least equal to the widest track of the harvester wheels and the first conveyor has substantially the same width. A number of cleaning stages is incorporated and peas are received from the threshing device by two inclined vibratory conveyors the inclination of each of which is adjustable. A hopper assembly for peas is arranged forwardly of the threshing device and includes an auxiliary hopper which automatically takes the place of the main hopper when the latter is moved to its discharge position.
