  • Patent number: 5839818
Abstract: The cap (10) of the capped electric lamp (1) has a resilient member (14) which acts transversely to the axis (10') of the cap. This allows the lamp to be used in a lighting system having the lamp and a reflector (40), in which the reflector is of a simple construction. The resilient member (14) presses transverse reference locations (13) of the cap against flat mounting surfaces (50) in the reflector, which are located on the legs of a V. The cap (10), and thus the electric element (3) inside the lamp vessel (2), are as a result accurately positioned in the reflector in two directions transverse to the axis. The cap (10) may in addition have projections (23,24,25) distributed over its circumference, each having an axial reference location (12), by which the cap is axially aligned in the reflector (40) through cooperation with surfaces (49) ridge portions (46,47,48) of the reflector.

  • Patent number: 5742114
Abstract: The capped electric lamp has a quartz glass lamp vessel (1) having first and second neck-shaped portions (2,3) with respective seals (4,5). A glass envelope (9) surrounds the lamp vessel and is secured thereto. A clamping member (20) surrounds the envelope in a clamping manner. A fixation member (32) of a lamp cap (30) is welded to the clamping member. The clamping member (20) is an undulated metal body, the crests of its creases constituting regions (22) which are spaced from the envelope (9) and in which welds to the fixation member (32) are made. Its troughs constitute clamping zones (21) which hold the envelope. The clamping member (20) allows for the application of a relatively wide envelope (9), which may enter the lamp cap (30).

  • Patent number: 5550722
Abstract: An electric lamp including a light source, a lamp cap having a shell and a base, a housing connected to the light source and to the lamp cap, and a ballast which is electrically connected to the light source for operating the light source and which is arranged at least partly in a space surrounded by the housing and the lamp cap. The lamp cap includes contacts electrically connected to the ballast at least during lamp operation, one of said contacts being provided on the base and a further one on the shell. The further contact is formed by a band of conducting material around the lamp cap, which band directly adjoins the base at one side and adjoins a band of insulating material around the lamp cap at another side. This suppresses the interference generated in the supply mains, due to capacitive coupling between the ballast and the further contact, to a considerable degree.
