    Abstract: The present invention provides a method of preparing a supported catalyst, preferably a hydrocracking catalyst, the method at least comprising the steps of: a) providing a zeolite Y having a bulk silica to alumina molar ratio (SAR) of at least 10; b) contacting the zeolite Y provided in step a) with a base and a surfactant, thereby obtaining a zeolite Y with increased mesoporosity; c) shaping the zeolite Y with increased mesoporosity as obtained in step b) thereby obtaining a shaped 10 catalyst carrier; d) calcining the shaped catalyst carrier as obtained in step c) in the presence of the surfactant of step b), thereby obtaining a calcined catalyst carrier; e) impregnating the catalyst carrier calcined in step d) with a noble metal component thereby obtaining a supported catalyst.
