Patent number: 11193963Abstract: Methods, systems, and apparatus, including computer programs encoded on a computer storage medium, for monitoring energy consumption. In one aspect, a method includes sending, to a power monitor of a circuit board, requests for power consumption data. The requests are sent periodically based on a reference clock that is located external to the circuit board and that is more accurate than a clock of the power monitor. Each request is for an accumulated amount of power for components of the circuit board. In response to each request, power consumption data is received from the power monitor. The power consumption data specifies the accumulated amount of power for the components of the circuit board since a previous request sent to the circuit board. An amount of energy consumed by the components of the circuit board over a time period is determined based on the received power measurements and the time period.Type: GrantFiled: December 2, 2019Date of Patent: December 7, 2021Assignee: Google LLCInventors: Gregory Sizikov, Cornelius B. O'Sullivan

Patent number: 9489003Abstract: Methods, systems, and apparatus for managing power in a data center. In one aspect, a method includes monitoring respective phase power level in each phase of an alternating current multi-phase supply that provides power to a plurality of data center alternating current devices in a data center, comparing the respective phase power levels to phase distribution criteria that describe a target phase power level for each respective phase and determine, based on the comparison, a deviation of one or more of monitored phase power levels from the respective one or more target phase power levels and in response generate, for each of two or more data center alternating current devices, respective control signals to adjust the one or more adjustable phase power supplies in the data center alternating current device according to a determined adjustment for the data center alternating current device.Type: GrantFiled: October 14, 2013Date of Patent: November 8, 2016Assignee: Google Inc.Inventors: Cornelius B. Patent number: 9335774Abstract: In many aspects, the systems and methods described herein include circuitry for an intermediate bus converter for use in a datacenter. The systems and methods described herein describe an intermediate bus converter comprising power stage circuitry, comprising a non-isolated converter, configured to convert a DC source voltage to one or more DC output voltages, wherein the DC source voltage is received from a front-end AC-to-DC converter. The intermediate bus converter further comprising controller circuitry configured to receive both the DC source voltage and the DC output voltage, and generate an at least one control signal to control the operation of the power stage circuitry.Type: GrantFiled: May 9, 2012Date of Patent: May 10, 2016Assignee: Google Inc.Inventors: Honggang Sheng, Sangsun Kim, Cornelius B. Patent number: 9218033Abstract: A method and apparatus are provided for balancing the load placed by a data center on different phases of a power input. According to the method and apparatus, the load on the power is monitored and a load imbalance detected. Once the load imbalance is detected, a server rack from the data center is selected and a power supply in the selected server rack is reconfigured to output an increased or decreased voltage.Type: GrantFiled: October 15, 2012Date of Patent: December 22, 2015Assignee: Google Inc.Inventors: Richard Roy, Cornelius B. O'Sullivan, Taliver Brooks Heath

Patent number: 6215666Abstract: A giga-bit interface convertor module bracket assembly having upper and lower ground springs. The upper ground spring has upper wing-shaped springs in the upper part of the front opening of the bracket assembly and a pair of upper spring tabs on the interior of the bracket assembly. The lower ground spring has lower wing-shaped springs in the lower part of the front opening of the bracket assembly and a pair of lower spring tabs on the interior of the bracket assembly. When a giga-bit interface convertor module is inserted in the bracket assembly through the front opening, the upper and lower spring tabs bias against the top and bottom walls of the giga-bit interface convertor module to provide grounding thereto. Additionally, the upper and lower wing-shaped springs contact with a front panel of an enclosure or bracket or an electronic card on which the bracket assembly sits. The lower ground spring is provided with a bottom ground spring to contact the electronic card for grounding.Type: GrantFiled: October 8, 1998Date of Patent: April 10, 2001Assignee: Sun Microsystems, Inc.Inventors: Vince P.
