  • Patent number: 7536205
Abstract: A base station for communicating with mobile stations in a coverage area of the wireless network. The base station comprises: 1) a transceiver for transmitting downlink OFDMA signals to each mobile station; 2) an antenna array for transmitting the downlink OFDMA signals to the mobile stations using spatially directed beams; and 3) an SDMA scheduling controller for scheduling downlink transmissions to the mobile stations. The SDMA scheduling controller determines a first mobile station having a highest priority and schedules the first mobile station for downlink transmission in a particular time-frequency slot. The SDMA scheduling controller then determines additional mobile stations that are spatially uncorrelated with the first mobile station, as well as each other, and schedules the additional mobile stations for downlink transmission in that particular time-frequency slot according to priority.

  • Publication number: 20090028264
Abstract: In this invention, several open-loop solutions that encompass the small delay CDD codeword cycling, codeword cycling between different re-transmissions of both small and large delay CDD are proposed. In addition, an open-loop codeword cycling method for SFBC+FSTD scheme, as well as its extension to SFBC+FSTD based HARQ, are proposed. In one method, a plurality of information bits are encoded, scrambled and modulated to generate a plurality of modulation symbols. The plurality of modulation symbols are mapped onto the subcarriers in at least one transmission layer of a transmission resource. The modulation symbols are then precoded by using a matrix for cyclic delay diversity and a set of codewords from a certain codebook to generate a plurality of precoded symbols. The codewords are cycled for every a certain number of subcarriers. Finally, the precoded symbols are transmitted via a plurality of transmission antennas.

  • Patent number: 7483406
Abstract: A mobile station for use in a wireless network comprising a first base station that transmits user data streams in a forward channel using a multiple-input, multiple-output (MIMO) antenna system. The mobile station implements a virtual MIMO antenna system to receive MIMO data signals transmitted by the first base station. The mobile station comprises first and second transceivers. The first transceiver receives the MIMO data signals transmitted by the first base station and stores a first plurality of MIMO data signal samples in a memory. The second transceiver receives directly from a second mobile station a second plurality of MIMO data signal samples received by the second mobile station from the first base station. The second plurality of MIMO data signal samples are stored in memory. A MIMO algorithm generates from the first and second plurality of samples the user data streams transmitted by the base station.

  • Publication number: 20080303699
Abstract: The present invention relates to methods and apparatus for preventing power imbalance in a multiple input multiple output (MIMO) wireless precoding system. According to one aspect of the present invention, a codebook is constructed with a first subset of codewords that are constant modulus matrices, and a second subset of codewords that are non-constant modulus matrices. A mapping scheme is established between the first subset of codewords and the second subset of codewords. When a unit of user equipment feeds back a first codeword that is a non-constant modulus matrix, the Node-B may replace the first codewords with a second codeword that is selected from the first subset of codewords and that corresponds to the first codeword in accordance with the mapping scheme.

  • Publication number: 20080298482
Abstract: The present invention provides a method for feedback and transmission of multi-user (MU) multiple input multiple output (MIMO) in a wireless communication system. The method includes steps of selecting subset codebook or full code book based on traffic load of a base station, and broadcasting the selected codebook to user equipments. In high traffic load, subset codebook is selected, and in low traffic load, full codebook is selected. User stations calculated a channel quality indicator of a spatial codeword vector that is included in the selected codebook. Information of the maximum channel quality indicator is sent to the base station together with a precoder of the user equipment. The base station selects user equipments based on the information of the maximum channel quality indicator and precoder, and transmits precoder signal and data signal to the user equipments. The present invention also provides a system for the base station that causes the base station to perform the above mentioned operations.
