    Abstract: The present invention relates to an image display panel (1) having a substrate (21) having at least one channel (31, 32, 33, 34, 35) comprising an ionizable gas mixture (51). The walls of the channels are provided with electrodes (37, 39) for selectively ionizing the ionizable gas mixture during operation. The display panel is provided with an exhaust box (55) and an exhaust tube (57) which are formed in one piece. The exhaust box (55) and exhaust tube (57) are provided at the back of the substrate (21) and extend in a plane parallel to the plane of the display panel.

    Abstract: The thin-type display device (1) has a transparent front wall (3), which is provided with a display screen, and a rear wall (24) which extends parallel to said front wall (3), and said display device comprises at least an electron source and a duct structure. The display device (1) is characterized in that the rear wall (24) and walls (22, 22', 22") of the ducts of the duct structure are manufactured in a single piece. Preferably, the walls (22, 22', 22") of the ducts widen in the direction of the rear wall (24), with the angle, which opposing faces of the walls (22, 22', 22") of the ducts make with each other, ranging from 1.degree. to 30.degree.. Preferably, the rear wall (24) further comprises at least an upright side wall (32), which is integral with the rear wall (24). Preferably, the walls (22, 22', 22") are made from a glass having a temperature interval between the operating temperature and the softening temperature of less than 420.degree., perferably less than 360.degree.

    Abstract: A passive fiber optic component, in which two or more fibers are each bared at one end by removal of the outer coating of the fiber. The bare portions of the fibers are etched to produce cylindrical end portion which adjoins a conical portion. Subsequently, the fibers are arranged with their etched portions in a capillary tube which is sealed at one end. The tube is then evacuated and is fused with the etched portions of the fibers to form a solid rod with a rotationally symmetric distribution of the end portions of the fibers. The fibers are etched to such a diameter that after fusion of the fibers with the tube, the fused fiber ends have a circular cross-section substantially equal to the cross-section of a single fiber core. An end face is formed on the rod by cleaving or by grinding, and by polishing to obtain a fused fiber head. The fiber head forms a fiber optic component itself, or forms a basic element for a great number of fiber optic components such as splitters and couplers.
