  • Patent number: 10589880
Abstract: Space system comprising a structure formed by structure components, an on-board equipment carried by the structure, and a passive device designed to facilitate demise of the space system during re-entry into the Earth's atmosphere. The passive device comprises connecting members designed to stably connect the structure components. The connecting members comprise at least a portion made of a primer material with characteristics such as to decay at re-entry altitudes higher than those at which the current connecting members melt so as to make unstable the connection created by the connecting members to such an extent as to early triggering demise of the structure of the space system during re-entry into the Earth's atmosphere.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: December 1, 2015
Date of Patent: March 17, 2020
Assignee: Thales Alenia Space Italia S.p.A. Con Unico Socio
Inventors: Guido Parissenti, Primo Attina′, Roberto Destefanis, Corrado Gennaro, Lilith Grassi, Marco Nebiolo

  • Patent number: 8064154
Abstract: A protective device for optical and/or electronic apparatuses, in particular space telescopes, is described, wherein the device is such as to removably close an aperture, through which apparatuses may be accessed, the device being such as to achieve a first and second operating configuration, respectively, for allowing or inhibiting access to apparatuses through aperture. The device includes a supporting structure having at least one supporting beam, which is transversely positioned with respect to aperture; a plurality of covering elements comprising at least a pair of elements, which are rotatably coupled to the same supporting beam; and actuation means for rotating the covering elements between a first and second angular position, in order for the device to attain the first or second operating configuration, respectively, wherein, in the second operating configuration, the covering elements are such as to define together a screen for aperture.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: July 24, 2009
Date of Patent: November 22, 2011
Assignee: Thales Alenia Space Italia SpA
