Publication number: 20050135943Abstract: A molded compressor base (100) is provided for mounting a compressor without requiring mechanical fasteners. The molded compressor base (100) can be used to mount the compressor in any position ranging from a substantially horizontal position to a substantially vertical position. The molded compressor base (100) includes a mounting area that is designed and configured to secure a compressor placed in the mounting area. The mounting area can be configured for a compressor to be mounted in a substantially horizontal position, a substantially vertical position or any position in between. The molded compressor base (100) can also include one or more isolators to secure the compressor and to isolate vibrations from the compressor from the molded compressor base (100). The molded compressor base (100) can damp sound and/or vibrations generated by the compressor or the molded compressor base (100) can be coated with a sound and/or vibration damping coating.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 23, 2004Publication date: June 23, 2005Inventors: Wayne Kennedy, Scott Hix, Cosimo Caronna, John Williams, Joe Hill, Michael Young

Patent number: 6466132Abstract: An incipient failure indication apparatus for an environmental control system which includes a heat exchanger through which air flows and a temperature control thermostat. The indication apparatus includes an indicator having an alarm in communication with a control board, the control board in communication with the thermostat. The alarm has a visual indicator and/or an aural indicator, whereby the attention of a person is attracted to the indicator upon activation of the alarm. A first temperature sensor is disposed on the upstream side of the heat exchanger and a second temperature sensor is disposed on the downstream side of the heat exchanger, whereby the temperature sensors respectively sense the temperature of the air upstream and downstream of the heat exchanger. The first and second temperature sensors are in communication with the control board, and the control board has means for comparing the temperatures sensed thereby.Type: GrantFiled: January 22, 2001Date of Patent: October 15, 2002Assignee: International Comfort Products Corporation (USA)Inventors: Cosimo Caronna, Danny R. Burdette

Patent number: 4628800Abstract: Apparatus for regulating air flow through a housing is disclosed. A baffle assembly including a ramp-like keeper is provided such that detents on the keeper contact the edge of the baffle to secure the baffle in position. When the baffle reaches a top position along the keeper it contacts a cam and returns to its initial position. The combination arrangement is utilized to either regulate the flow of air being discharged from the unit or to divert air between multiple outlets in the housing.Type: GrantFiled: April 8, 1985Date of Patent: December 16, 1986Assignee: Carrier CorporationInventors: Richard D. Lang, Cosimo Caronna

Patent number: 4385504Abstract: Apparatus for securing wires passing through a partition of an air conditioning unit is disclosed. A wire slot having rounded edges is formed in a partition. A wire seal is slidably secured to the partition having a flare portion extending through the wire slot. Upon assembly, the wire seal is slid downwardly with the flare portion extending through the wire slot such that the wires are secured at the bottom of the slot and the remainder of the slot has a body portion of the wire seal preventing air flow therethrough. The wire seal is secured in position via fastening means and the flare portion acts to not only compress the wires at the bottom of the wire slot but to angle them downwardly preventing moisture from flowing along the wires into the indoor section of the unit.Type: GrantFiled: May 18, 1981Date of Patent: May 31, 1983Assignee: Carrier CorporationInventors: Terrence J. Perrone, Theodore S. Bolton, Cosimo Caronna

Patent number: 4367635Abstract: An air conditioning unit and a control box assembly incorporating as a portion thereof a power cord strain relief are disclosed. A portion of the front panel of the control box is bent into a clip portion parallel to the side panel of the control box. The power cord is mounted therebetween and a screw is utilized to displace the clip portion to secure the power cord between the side panel and the clip portion. An opening in the control box allows the power cord to exit therefrom while secured in position by the components of the control box assembly.Type: GrantFiled: June 15, 1981Date of Patent: January 11, 1983Assignee: Carrier CorporationInventors: Brad G. Leech, Cosimo Caronna

Patent number: 4346568Abstract: A method and apparatus for securing tubes in a partition of an air conditioning unit. A tube seal is provided having slits for engaging the side walls of a partition opening in a partition dividing an air conditioning unit into an indoor section and an outdoor section. A tube receiving slit is provided in the seal such that upon assembly of the partition to the unit the refrigerant carrying tubes are secured within the seal. Additionally, extension portions from the seal extend downwardly and upon assembly are compressed to force the material of the seal to surround the tubes as well as the partition opening to provide a seal for reducing air flow between the indoor section and outdoor section of the air conditioning unit.Type: GrantFiled: May 18, 1981Date of Patent: August 31, 1982Assignee: Carrier CorporationInventors: Terrence J. Perrone, Theodore S. Bolton, Cosimo Caronna
