Patent number: 7066360Abstract: A push-pull closure including a shell and a tip. The shell includes a body with a fluid opening, a stem extending axially through the opening, and a first lip on the body outer surface and a second lip on the body inner surface, with the lips facing the shell one end with the second lip being further from the shell one end than the first lip. The tip has a pouring aperture with an outer flange having an inwardly extending third lip receivable over the body outer surface and an inner flange having an outwardly extending fourth lip receivable in the body opening and spaced from the stem. The third lip is positioned between the shell one end and the first lip and the fourth lip is positioned between the shell one end and the second lip. The first lip has an outer diameter greater than the inner diameter of the third lip and the second lip has an inner diameter less than the outer diameter of the fourth lip.Type: GrantFiled: November 5, 2003Date of Patent: June 27, 2006Assignee: Alcoa Closure Systems InternationalInventors: Coy Hearld, Ramesh Kamath

Patent number: 6981601Abstract: A snap-on plastic closure for a container includes a top wall portion, an annular skirt portion depending from the top wall portion, and a removal tab projecting forwardly from the skirt portion for manipulation of the closure during removal. A sealing plug depends from the inside surface of the top wall portion for disposition generally within the mouth of an associated container. The skirt portion of the closure includes a deformable region positioned beneath the removal tab so that during closure removal, the deformable region is permanently stretched and deformed for tamper-indication.Type: GrantFiled: March 21, 2002Date of Patent: January 3, 2006Assignee: Alcoa Closure Systems InternationalInventors: Richard Laveault, Coy Hearld, Stephen McBride

Patent number: 6832706Abstract: A dispensing closure assembly includes an outer closure body having an upper tubular portion which can function as a mouthpiece for users. The closure assembly includes a flexible valve member mounted within the tubular portion of the closure body for dispensing of liquids or like contents by either the application of suction by a consumer, or by squeezing the associated container. By the provision of a liquid seal lip which coacts with an inside surface of the flexible valve member, the closure assembly can be configured to facilitate convenient use by consumers, while avoiding undesirable leakage attendant to normal handling during use.Type: GrantFiled: January 10, 2003Date of Patent: December 21, 2004Assignee: Alcoa Closure Systems InternationalInventors: Coy Hearld, Lawrence Smeyak, Hassan Najdawi, David Babcock, Ramesh Kamath, Mark Powell, Zinovy Royzen

Publication number: 20040155007Abstract: A composite closure includes a plastic outer closure cap, and an inner sealing liner positioned adjacent to an inside surface of a top wall portion of the outer cap. In order to enhance sealing integrity with an associated container, the liner is configured to include inward and outwardly facing sealing surfaces, with the provision of an annular sealing bead providing a top/side seal with an associated container, and an annular sealing plug fitting within the mouth of an associated container for providing an inside seal. The closure construction has been found to maintain sealing integrity with an associated container when the closure and container package is subjected to relatively high temperatures.Type: ApplicationFiled: February 10, 2003Publication date: August 12, 2004Inventors: Coy Hearld, Michael Zurawski, Hassan Najdawi, Larry Smeyak, Ramesh Kamath

Patent number: 6557714Abstract: A tamper-evident package includes a plastic closure having a top wall portion, a depending annular skirt portion, and a tamper band at least partially detachably connected to the skirt portion. The package further includes a container having a neck portion configured for tamper-indicating cooperation with the projections on the tamper band. The container includes a plurality of circumferentially spaced ratchet-like locking teeth, each of which presents a locking surface for interfering engagement with a respective one of the projections of the closure tamper band. The arrangement is particularly configured to promote rapid tamper-indication attendant to relatively little rotation of the closure relative to the container.Type: GrantFiled: March 22, 2001Date of Patent: May 6, 2003Assignees: Alcoa Closure Systems International, Inc., Graham Packaging CompanyInventors: David E. Babcock, Lawrence Smeyak, Coy Hearld
