  • Publication number: 20090096576
Abstract: Medium-range and global network information and control for a vehicle is achieved with a portable wireless key fob, a user-provided nomadic device, and a vehicle-installed telematics unit including a medium-range RF transceiver and a wireless network transceiver. The fob includes a medium-range RF transceiver for bi-directional communication with the telematics unit, and a short-range wireless transceiver for bi-directional communication with the nomadic device. The fob communicates with the telematics unit in a conventional manner, and also relays information between the telematics unit and the nomadic device. If a communication initiated via the fob cannot be completed because the fob is out of range, the communication is sent to the nomadic device for network transmission to the telematics unit. If a communication initiated via the nomadic device cannot be completed due to inadequate signal reception, the communication is sent to the fob for RF transmission to the telematics unit.

  • Publication number: 20080129684
Abstract: A display system and a method of controlling a multiple-view display in a vehicle are provided. The display system includes a display for generating a first image that is viewable within a driver viewing window and a passenger image that is viewable within a passenger viewing window. The display system also includes sensors for sensing location of a driver of the vehicle. The display system further includes a controller for controlling the first and second images shown on the display. The controller disables the presentation of at least some image content in the passenger viewing window when the driver is determined to be attempting to view the passenger image.

  • Patent number: 7059446
Abstract: A frame-based occupant weight estimation apparatus for a vehicle seat that is supported by two or more floor brackets secured to the vehicle floor spans an open space between the floor brackets to prevent shunting of the occupant weight through a foreign object lying on the floor between the floor brackets. The weight estimation apparatus includes a fluid filled bladder sandwiched between first and second rigid plates, and is held in place between the seat frame and the floor brackets by a set of fasteners. A spring preloads the bladder so that deviations of the bladder fluid pressure from the preload pressure will be indicative of occupant weight. The first plate spans the open space between the floor brackets so that the fluid pressure is indicative of occupant weight even in cases where a portion of the occupant weight is supported by a foreign object disposed between the floor brackets.

  • Patent number: 5942695
Abstract: An existing vehicle seat design is equipped with strain gauges welded to structural seat members to sense occupant seated weight. A microprocessor compensates for preload on the sensors and multiplies each signal by an empirically determined gain, and then combines the gauge outputs. The combined output is low pass filtered to avoid motion induced errors. The measured occupant seated weight is used by decision logic to decide whether to allow passenger airbag deployment.
