  • Patent number: 5587864
Abstract: A three-phase electrical system includes an interrupt controller. The interrupt controller protects against inadvertent current flow between a phase conductor and ground and between phase conductors. The interrupt controller measures the voltage across a series connection of current transformers disposed about various phase conductors. If an inadvertent current path exists between one of the phase conductors and ground or between two of the phase conductors, the interrupt controller interrupts the current flow in the phase conductors. Additionally, a single-phase electrical system with a hot conductor and a neutral conductor includes an interrupt controller. The interrupt controller protects against inadvertent current flow between the hat conductor and ground and between the hot conductor and the neutral conductor. The interrupt controller measures the voltage across a series connection of current transformers disposed about the hot and neutral conductors.

  • Patent number: 5494459
Abstract: The improved connector box assembly of the present invention includes mating male and female connectors, each of which is insulated in a novel manner to prevent manual touching, especially of the male probe during electrical connection, and also to prevent manual touching of the electrically live female conductor when not engaged with the male connector element. The female electrical receptacle is recessed within elongated neck-like electrical insulation means for disposition over one end of the female electrical receptacle and to permit relatively snug entry thereinto of the male electrical probe. The female electrical receptacle is a substantial distance front the orifice of the elongated neck means of such insulation.

  • Patent number: 5369352
Abstract: An adapter for an electric vehicle is provided which imposes an identification signal on the outlet voltage to inform the battery charger of the characteristics of the outlet (e.g., the maximum current and voltage) to allow the battery charger to charge at the maximum possible rate allowable by the outlet.

  • Patent number: 5336934
Abstract: An electrical connection and interlock circuit system (20) operates between a battery (14) and a drive motor (16) of a vehicle electric drive. Circuit system (20) includes a connection circuit (22) having first and second connectors (24) and (26) for energizing the drive motor (16) by the battery (14) and also includes an interlock circuit (28) that operates to electrically disconnect the connection circuit when either connector is in a partially connected position. The circuit system (20) also includes a power connector housing (46) at which the second connector (26) is located along with a third connector (66) that is connected to the drive motor (16), and a mechanical interlock (66) prevents disconnection of the third connector until after the second connector is disconnected so that there is no power at the third connector during its connection or disconnection.
