  • Publication number: 20030061272
Abstract: A proxy cache maintains a copy of multiple resources from various servers in a network. When the proxy cache must generate a validation request for at least one resource at one of the servers, the proxy cache piggybacks one or more additional cache validation requests related to documents presently stored in the cache but originating from or associated with the server in question. Upon receipt of an indication of the freshness or validity of the cached copy of the document, the proxy cache can then make a determination as to whether to request an update of the document.

  • Publication number: 20030046343
Abstract: The present invention is a method for improving delivery of content to a client communicating with a server on the Web. Groups or clusters of clients are formed by processing the IP addresses of the clients according to a network-aware, radix-encoded trie classification process. The groups of clients are categorized based on information about one or more clients in each group that can be determined by the server. That information is used to help drive tailored actions on the part of Web servers. Users with poor connectivity may choose not to spend much time at a Web site if it takes a long time to receive a page, even if the Web server at the site is not the bottleneck. Retaining such clients may be of interest to a Web site. Better-connected clients may be able to receive enhanced representations of Web pages such as with higher quality images.

  • Patent number: 5711106
Abstract: A landscape edging system has an inverted V-shaped outer edge with has an inner leg and an outer leg with the outer leg being longer than the inner leg. The inner leg mates with a base which encloses the interior of the system and with the inner leg forms a compression space. This compression space allows the outer leg to rest against the ground with the covered grass being compressed within the compression space. One embodiment of the system is a one-piece circular component which can be mated with a pot to provide a potting container for retail sales. Another embodiment has a base of a predefined shape with outer edging frames being attached around the outer periphery of the base to create the edging system. Another embodiment has a group of semi-circular edging components which can be connected together with or without a group of inserts to form various geometric shapes.

  • Patent number: 5509639
Abstract: Selectively attachable winch assemblies wherein a first embodiment includes a bracket having a base plate, a stanchion extending upwardly from the base plate including structure for supporting a winch in an elevated free standing position and a backing plate which preferably is permanently attached to the vehicle and includes structure for securing the bracket. During periods of nonuse, the winch assembly is removable from the vehicle to free up space for other purposes. Under another embodiment of the present invention the winch is selectively adjustable along various points on the supporting substrate.

  • Patent number: 4644076
Abstract: A continuous process for the production of hexamethyldisilazane consisting of introducing predetermined quantities of trimethylcholorosilane and gaseous ammonia to form a mixture of hexamethyldisilazane and ammonium chloride in a first reactor, while simultaneously subjecting said mixture to continuous high shear agitation to form a slurry, and then separating the ammonia choloride from said slurry to provide a solution principally comprising hexamethyldisilazane and apparatus useful with the foregoing process.
