  • Publication number: 20080029988
Abstract: A trailing arm assembly for a suspension includes first and second axle wraps. The first and second axle wraps are welded to each other to substantially surround an outer perimeter of an axle member. The first axle wrap is then welded to one side of the axle member at a first weld area and the second axle wrap is welded to an opposite side of the axle member at a second weld area. The first axle wrap includes a spring seat and the second axle wrap includes an arm body with a bushing receiver portion at one arm end. A bushing tube attached to the bushing receiver portion. The first weld area comprises a single window weld and the second weld area comprises first and second window welds that are positioned on opposing sides of the arm body.

  • Publication number: 20070204680
Abstract: The present invention provides an apparatus adapted to engage a surface, such as a road or racetrack. The apparatus provides an output to an operator that is representative of the current tractive condition of the surface. The indication from the measuring device may be adapted to provide a quantifiable indication to a driver or crew related to recent changes in the tractive condition of the surface. The driver or crew may in turn configure aspects of a racing vehicle, driving methodology and performance expectations based on current and measurable surface conditions.

  • Patent number: 7207593
Abstract: A tractor-trailer slider includes spaced apart longitudinal side rails having control arm supports extending downwardly from the side rails for supporting the slider. Portions of the longitudinal side rails and the control arms supports are integrated using one or more common plates. Lightening holes and edge of the slider are flanged to reinforce the walls. Coining and ribbing are also used for additional reinforcement. Lateral cross-members extend between the longitudinal side rails. The lateral cross-members have tabs on opposing ends that are received in an interlocking relationship with complementary elongated slots in the longitudinal side rails. Air spring supports arranged at forward and rearward portions of the slider are secured to the longitudinal side rails, the control arm supports, and the lateral cross-members to provide a structurally rigid frame. The air spring supports provide spaced apart air spring mounting pads.

  • Publication number: 20050051991
Abstract: This present invention provides a suspension slider assembly for a vehicle trailer comprising first and second spaced apart longitudinal members. A structure having a generally continuous, uniform wall is secured between the longitudinal members. The structure also includes a lateral portion extending between the longitudinal members. The wall includes a central portion adjoining opposing first and second angled portions that extend from the central portion at an angle relative to the lateral portion and longitudinal members.

  • Patent number: 6454656
Abstract: A unique structure for connecting the cross member of a universal joint to two yokes includes at least a pair of wing bearings bolted to one of the yokes. Preferably, the other yoke utilizes full circular bores to receive the other two shafts of the cross member. The wing bearings include structure which ensures a secure connection to the yoke. In particular, a locator finger extends radially inwardly from the yoke and over the wing bearing and shaft. In this way, the distance between a reaction plane between the yoke and wing bearing and the centerline of the shaft within the wing bearing is reduced. This reduces a force moment on the shaft. In other features of this invention, the use of the full circular bore for one of the yokes allows the universal joint manufacturer to fully assemble the first yoke to the cross member, and ship that assembled yoke and cross member to the vehicle manufacturer.

  • Patent number: 5813916
Abstract: A universal joint bearing assembly incorporates a thrust washer molded from plastic. The plastic thrust washer eliminates the metal galling and metal debris that have been found in prior art universal joint bearings. A support notch is formed at radially outer surfaces to support an inner end of needle bearings. Resilient members bias the notch against the needle bearings such that the needle bearings are supported on the notch and against a seal at the outer end of the bearing cup. The resilient members are compressed when the universal joint is assembled such that the needle bearings operate properly. A central dome extension on the thrust washer insures that the thrust washer is not improperly mounted within the bearing cup. An outer face of the thrust washer is formed at an angle such that central portion extend further towards the trunnion than radially outer portions.

  • Patent number: 5562546
Abstract: A plug closes the end bore of a slip yoke. A plurality of teeth are cast into a counterbore formed at an end of the slip yoke. The rigid plug snaps behind the teeth to be retained within the counterbore. The teeth are circumferentially spaced and may be formed when the slip yoke is cast. The rigid plug has an edge that extends radially outwardly to engage an inner peripheral surface of the counterbore and retain the plug. The teeth prevent movement of the plug outwardly of the bore.
