  • Patent number: 12293609
Abstract: The disclosure describes a method and system for luggage management involving electronically acquiring an originating International Air Transport Association (IATA) bag tag number from a luggage item's bag tag associated with an originating travel carrier. The method recycles the IATA bag tag number that would otherwise be discarded as a unique identifier to query a database for an expanded or universal baggage source message (UBSM) that enumerates a passenger's travel path or itinerary to off-airport locations. The method and system accommodate various modes of travel and lodging entities and provide capabilities to track the location of passenger's luggage, transport the luggage to specific locations enumerated in the travel itinerary of the passenger such as a hotel room or cruise ship cabin, and update the UBSM of the current status and location of the luggage in off-airport locations.

  • Patent number: 12277806
Abstract: The disclosure includes a method and system for checking in baggage of a passenger. The method includes receiving a passenger name record (PNR) number of a confirmed itinerary for a flight on an airline carrier. The passenger's luggage items can be picked up from the passenger's location and transported to another location such as a processing or storage location for the luggage item. A simulated baggage source message (SBSM) compatible with International Air Transport Association B-Type messages can be generated using information from itinerary so that the passenger's luggage items can be checked in outside or inside of a regulated check-in window. The PNR number can be a temporary unique identifier for use in the SBSM.

  • Patent number: 12266219
Abstract: Various methods, computer systems, and machine learning models for luggage tracking and recovery are disclosed. The methods and computer systems may include matching first travel information including a passenger name and an International Air Transport Association (IATA) license plate number for a luggage item of a passenger in a flight manifest with second travel information from a created B-Type message that includes a reference indicator representative of a non-routine routed luggage item. The methods and computer systems may include generating an anomalous luggage item manifest record for the non-routine routed luggage item associated with the flight manifest; retrieving third travel information of the non-routine routed luggage item generated by a baggage handling system prior to or after the created B-Type message; and locating the non-routine routed the luggage item. Thereafter, the luggage item may be routed to its intended destination.

  • Patent number: 12254719
Abstract: The invention presents a method for luggage handling processes for passengers on return travel. The process includes acquiring, by an acquiring device, an originating bag tag identifier (O-BTI) or International Air Transport Association (IATA) license plate associated with a bag tag affixed to a luggage item of the passenger. This O-BIT is used to create a digital BTI data record linked to the travel carrier. The method includes printing, by a printing device, a return leg travel IATA-formatted bag tag for a return flight linked to the originating printed bag tag. Additionally, the method may remotely check in the passenger for the return flight by accessing a B-type message using the digital BTI data record, the B-type message containing a passenger name record (PNR) number.
