  • Patent number: 12203406
Abstract: A supercharged internal combustion engine is drivably connected to a variable displacement supercharger operable to continuously supply varying amounts of an air mass to the engine in response to the varying power requirements of the engine. The variable displacement capability eliminates blowdown losses of fixed displacement superchargers and substantially reduces the need for throttling of the intake air. The device also presents an air-motoring mode that can recover a portion of the engine throttling losses as positive power returned to the engine crankshaft when the engine intake manifold is below atmospheric pressure.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: March 8, 2024
Date of Patent: January 21, 2025

  • Patent number: 10156235
Abstract: A supercharged internal combustion engine has a supercharger operable to selectively supply a mass of air from below through above atmospheric air pressure according to the operating requirements of the engine. The supercharger has a shuttle combined with a throttle valve that controls the mass of air directed to an air mass bypass opening and supplied to the internal combustion engine. The shuttle has rollers that ride on rails that allow the shuttle to move to open and close the air mass bypass opening in communication with a casing that directs a mass of atmospheric air and a bypass mass of air interfused with the mass of atmospheric air to an air mass inlet of the supercharger.

  • Patent number: 8813492
Abstract: A diesel or diesel-like internal combustion engine drivably connected to a variable internal compression ratio supercharger that supplies varying amounts of air to the engine responsive to the load requirements of the engine. The supercharger has a pair of rotors concurrently driven by the engine to move air to the engine. A slide assembly associated with screw rotors is movable with a controller relative to the rotors to bypass air to atmosphere and regulate the amount of air and pressure of the air compressed by the screw rotors to the engine to increase the engine's efficiency.

  • Patent number: 8740824
Abstract: A vest for a human body has an air core coupled to a pulsator operable to subject the vest to pulses of air which applies and releases high frequency pressure forces to the body. The pulsator has two diaphragms connected to a brushless electric dc motor with rotary to reciprocating linear motion transmitting mechanisms comprising scotch yokes having anti-lash assemblies operable to generate air pulses in an air pulsing chamber. The diaphragms also increase the pressure in a manifold chamber. A check valve connects the manifold chamber with a pulsing chamber to allow pressurized air to flow from the manifold chamber into the pulsing chamber. An air flow control valve in communication with the manifold chamber is used to adjust the pressure of the air in the manifold and pulsing chambers. A programmable motor controller adjusts the duration of operation and speed of the motor to vary the operational time and frequency of the air pulses.
