Abstract: A closure and method of making a closure are disclosed. The closure includes a cap body having a top portion and an opening extending therethrough defining a cavity in communication with said opening. A flow channel is defined within a portion of the cap body having an inlet and an outlet. A stopper is disposed within the cavity adjacent the outlet of the flow channel. The stopper is formed from a material adapted for flowing through the flow channel to form a pierceable portion, with at least one of the cap body and the stopper configured for closing a container.

Abstract: Secure authentication to a remote application operating on a remote server across a network includes detecting a login associated with the remote application; and in response to the detected login, offloading the login process to an isolated execution environment configured to receive a login request message from the browser application; identify confidential information stored in the secure memory storage and associated with the remote application; populate the login request message with the identified confidential data; transmit the populated login request message to the remote application; receive a login response message from the remote application upon successful login; and transmit the login response message to the browser application, wherein only the isolated execution environment can read and write to the secure memory storage.

Abstract: A specimen collection container having a transitional fill-volume indicator is disclosed. The specimen collection container includes an open top end, a closed bottom end, and a sidewall extending therebetween defining an interior. The specimen collection container includes a transitional fill-volume indicator adjacent the sidewall, such that the container defines a first volumetric interior defined by the sidewall between the closed bottom end and the transitional indicator. The specimen collection container also defines a second volumetric interior defined by the sidewall between the closed bottom end and a portion of the sidewall disposed above the transitional indicator.

Abstract: Methods and systems to bind a computer device to one or more computer systems, such that only an authorized computer system may access a protected portion of the device. A processor within the computer system may provide a proxy environment to interface between the device and a trusted environment of the computer system, such as a management environment that is secure from the proxy environment. The device may be configured to authenticate the trusted environment through the proxy environment, and to verify integrity of messages exchanged with the trusted environment through the proxy environment. Authentication may include a SSL and/or TSL handshake protocol. The device may be configured to authenticate a certificate, such as an X.509 certificate, a certificate chain, and/or a hash thereof. The device may include computer memory, a printer, display, circuit board, keyboard, mouse, pointing device, and/or other physical device.

Abstract: A closure and a container assembly are disclosed. The closure includes a first visual identifier and a second visual identifier, wherein the second visual identifier is different from the first visual identifier. The first visual identifier may be a first color, and the second visual identifier may be a second color. At least one of the first and/or second visual identifier may include a fluorescent compound having a characteristic fluorescent spectra. The first visual identifier and the second visual identifier may be provided on the annular skirt of the closure. The fluorescent compound may be provided on at least one of the closure and the container assembly and can be used to facilitate automated visualization of the fluorescent compound under fluorescence excitation light.

Abstract: A method for remotely communicating with a Broadband modem is provided. Once a communication error is detected on a Broadband modem, a Plain Old Telephone System (POTS) connection is established between the Broadband modem and a remote server. Communication then occurs with the remote server via the POTS connection using Dual-Tone Multi-Frequency (DTMF) tones. The communication preferably comprises transmitting information associated with the communication error to the remote server via the POTS connection using DTMF tones and receiving a diagnosis from the remote server via the POTS connection in DTMF tones. A system for remotely diagnosing a Broadband modem as well as a Broadband modem is also provided.

Abstract: A system and method for optimizing data store selection for write operations are described herein. In one embodiment the method includes receiving a first request to perform a write operation on one of a plurality of multi-master data stores, wherein the one of the plurality of multi-master data stores is undetermined, and wherein the first request includes an optimization technique identifier. The method also includes creating a second request, wherein the second request requests performance of the write operation. The method further includes determining the one of the plurality of multi-master data stores to which the second request will be transmitted, and wherein the determining includes using an optimization technique associated with the optimization technique identifier. The method further includes transmitting the second request to the one of the plurality of multi-master data stores.

Abstract: In a fibre channel network environment wherein an arbitrated loop is provided a switchable connection with another arbitrated loop, a technique and corresponding apparatus are provided for controlling signal paths through the hubs stack between any two devices such that routing of a signal and interactive communication can be carried out transparently to the fibre channel network without excessive overhead, and wherein control is changed in an orderly manner such that end-to-end device connections are unaware that they are not connected to the same hub. A switched arbitrated loop (SAL) according to the invention provides the concurrent bandwidth resource of a fabric switch without the extra features which would increase design cost and operational overhead. In a specific embodiment, a switched arbitrated loop supports only 126 nodes for stations (plus one fabric port) in a single loop topology.

Abstract: The tape drive control unit administers both computer data and video data that is stored on the same type of data storage media. This is accomplished by determining, when a magnetic tape is mounted in the tape drive, the format that is used to store the data on the magnetic tape media. In the case of video data, the data is directly written on to the magnetic tape media, while for computer data, a header is interposed between a leader portion of the magnetic tape on the 3480-type magnetic tape cartridge and the remainder of the magnetic tape contained therein.

Abstract: A peripheral device for use with a computer. The peripheral device includes a data path, a control circuit coupled to the data path for controlling data communication and a port. The port includes a connector used by the data path. The connector includes a first set of pins that are used by the data path and a second set of pins that are not used by the data path. The first set of pins are coupled to the data path for data communication from the data path to the computer, and the second set of pins coupled to the control circuit for providing access to the control circuit from the port.

Abstract: A method and apparatus is provided allowing a dual-speed network adapter to connect to the same physical connector without the use of mechanical or electro-mechanical switches. On the transmit path, the invention uses a differential amplifier buffer (130) to selectively couple a high speed transmit paths to the network, with the differential amplifier connected to the same output impedance as one of the two driver circuits. On the receive path, the invention allows data to be received in parallel by two receiver circuits, with one circuit isolated from the other with a pair of very high input impedance emitter/followers (40, 50).
