  • Patent number: 10156474
Abstract: A transmission spectroscopy device can direct light into a sample, and determine properties of the sample based on how much light emerges from the sample. The device can use a cell to contain the sample, so that the size of the cell defines the optical path length traversed by light in the sample. To ensure accuracy in the measurements, it is beneficial to calibrate the device by measuring the size of the cell periodically or as needed. To measure the size of the cell, the device can perform a transmission spectroscopy measurement of a known substance, such as pure water, to produce a measured absorbance spectrum of the known substance. The device can subtract a known absorbance spectrum of the known substance from the measured absorbance spectrum to form an oscillatory fringe pattern. The device can determine the size of the cell from a period of the fringe pattern.

  • Patent number: 8967388
Abstract: A screening panel and screening arrangement are provided for screening materials. The screening panel includes a peripheral frame having a first side frame member and an opposing second side frame member defining an opening therebetween. Further, the screening panel includes a plurality of spaced elongated screening ribs defining a screening surface of the screening panel. The screening panel includes a one or more sets of screening ribs that extend continuously across at least a portion of the screening surface of the screening panel in a non-parallel direction relative to a flow direction of material in the screening arrangement.

  • Patent number: 7360413
Abstract: A wireless water flow monitoring and leak detection system and method are provided. The system includes a base station, a memory, and a central processing unit configured to control the operation of the system and to analyze stored data. A plurality of highly-sensitive wireless flow sensor nodes are each installed individually on a supply line of a water fixture in a facility having a plurality of water fixtures. The wireless flow sensor nodes can periodically read and store a data point corresponding to either a flow condition or a no flow condition occurring at the water fixture. A plurality of coordinator nodes are configured to wirelessly relay data between the plurality of wireless flow sensor nodes and the base station. The base station is configured to determine based on an analysis of the stream of data points whether a leak exists in any of the water fixtures, and if a leak is determined to exist, a maintenance alert is generated.

  • Publication number: 20060002028
Abstract: An adjustable head stack comb is disclosed. The adjustable head stack comb includes first and second adjustable comb plates including at least one tooth segment which cooperatively form a comb having at least one tooth. The first and second comb plates are adjusted to adjust dimensions of the at least one tooth cooperatively formed by the tooth segments of the first and second comb plates. In the embodiments disclosed, a relative position of the first and second comb plates is adjusted to adjust a thickness dimension of the at least one tooth formed by the at least one tooth segments of the first and second comb plates. Also in illustrated embodiments, the comb plates are cooperatively adjusted to adjust an elevation or z-height of the at least one tooth of the comb.

  • Patent number: 6212722
Abstract: A method and apparatus for washing cloth items in an automatic washer is provided wherein the automatic washer includes a wash basket defining a wash chamber and an impeller located within the bottom of the wash chamber. The method includes loading cloth items into the wash chamber and then supplying a quantity of wash liquid into the wash chamber sufficient to moisten the cloth items but insufficient to cause the cloth items to lose frictional engagement with the impeller as the impeller oscillates. The impeller is oscillated to apply a drag force to the cloth items in contact with the impeller such that the cloth items in contact with the impeller move angularly along an arc-like path. Angular movement of the cloth items disposed along the bottom of the wash chamber beyond the outer periphery of the impeller is impeded such that relative angular motion is created between the cloth items disposed along the periphery of the impeller and the cloth items disposed immediately above the impeller.
